    3. Emery Try checking the USB drive by going to MY COMPUTER and making your flash drive is listed. If listed see how much space it shows on it. Take a file and copy it to that drive. If that works than go to RootsMagic and go to File/ Backup. Select the flash drive to use as your back up and a folder if needed. Click backup. hen completed go to the flash drive and open the folder if you used one. our backup should be there with today's date as part of the extension. If in the above process no space remains on the flash drive; select another. On older computer and some flash drives, you cannot remove them without using the "Safely Remove Hardware" button. Not using this button will lock the flash drive or the USB port or both. If this occurs a reboot MIGHT reset IT/THEM; However if the reset doesn't work, a TECH would be required. As CD It must be a R/W (READ/WRITE) with space remaining and not "CLOSED". Closing a R/W CD will effectively prevent additional writing to that CD. Also your CD drive must be a R/W drive as well. Hope this helps you or someone else. I have gone thru this myself, but may have missed something in my explanation. Best method if you are unsure is to use the File/Backup and backup to a folder on the desktop. You can copy the backup to either one of these other locations if all is ok there and then remove from desktop if needed.
