When you create a report for the direct line ancestors of a given person, and there is a family that has multiple children that are in the direct line, WHICH CHILD does RM choose to follow? Guess going backward ME to 'end of line' maybe it doesn't make a difference ?????? Do I only see it looking like it might when I try to follow the line from the furthest point TOWARD me .. Then which child do I select to follow? If there are two children from the same family, a male and a female, does it choose the male? Gets confusing as there are multiple children in families and often in multiple as well as the same family lines . yes, Acadian and French Canadian !! Pat
The ancestor line doesn't care about multiple children, it only picks the parents of each generation. If one of the persons in the line happens to have more than one set of parents, natural, adopted, step etc. then the line follows the last one you looked at in the program. I do not understand the rest of your question. "Backward to me"? which way is backward, from your grand parents to you or from your grand children to you? Descendants lists will choose all the children. It chooses the father. However, be aware that if the father married more than once, the report might pick the wrong mother. . How can you be descended from more than one child in a family? Unlike some software, Rootsmagic follows all the children of all the wives - this was key to my decision to use Rootsmagic. You can follow any line you want to. There isn't a default. You will however have a root person, probably yourself, and of course when you go backwards you'll be following your own direct line.
