I just successfully changed a date from 1847 or 1853 to 7 Jul 1847/1853. It turned the form entry yellow, but it took it. If Rootsmagic ever doesn't BOTH accept EXACTLY what I put in date fields, and PRINT OUT exactly what I put in the date fields, I won't be using Rootsmagic any longer; this was a key factor in my choice of this software. Don't even think about it. I actually checked with all three major genealogical societies. The "correct" format is what includes the information you have. Same goes for including the other wives and the step siblings on genealogical reports. I assume this has to do with changes in the calendar and the program is specific on the rules. However, I have had several occasions -- like today -- when vital records give a date of 6 Nov 1745/6. I really want to be able to type the date EXACTLY as it is given in the vital record and have it sort correctly. Somebody reading my transcription is going to think me sloppy in transcription when I cannot have the program accept what is printed in the record. Is there a fix for this? Making a sort date one of 1745 or 1746 does not work.
