RM instituted the ability to generate files for a website using XML and Javascript in version 6, and have continued to make that option available in version 7. It's a very nice process, and I've used for my web site and for a time, tried putting the pages on a CD for our family reunion. The problem with putting the files on a CD is that the browsers web security prevents the user from seeing all of the information. (The pages open, but clicking on the Index, for example, displays nothing.) I know it's possible to start Chrome with a special "tag" that disables web security, and when you do that, the files display properly. However, most (probably 99%) of my relatives are not computer savvy enough to do that. Many are also reluctant to even use the web, hence the reason for wanting to put the information on a CD. So the question is, is there any way to make this whole process automatic? Right now, the CD opens on autorun, so all the user has to do is insert the CD in the computer. Ideally, I'd like to keep the process that simple. The most straightforward approach I've found so far is to use an older version of Internet Explorer for a browser, and when you start to view the files a message pops up at the bottom of the screen saying to view the files, disable security by clicking on the message.. Edge has no such option, and a google search revealed that there is no way at all to disable the security using Edge. And I can't see how many people will be using an old version of IE since Microsoft is discouraging it's use entirely. Any suggestions appreciated. -- Charlie Hoffpauir http://my.rootsmagic.com/CRHoffpauir/ http://sites.rootsmagic.com/CharlieHoffpauir/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~charlieh/ http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Hoffpauir
My factory installed Win 10 has both Edge and IE installed. Perhaps theirs does too. Charlie, I don't know if there is any easy way to do that from a CD. We also discovered that Chrome has to be completely closed in order for that command line argument to take effect. If Chrome is already open when you do it, it just opens the window in the open instance of Chrome and doesn't honor the argument. That's why when RM asks if you want to preview the site after creating it, it tells you that if you're using Chrome you have to shut Chrome down before asking RM to show the preview. - Bruce On Sun, May 29, 2016 at 3:42 PM, Charlie Hoffpauir via < rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com> wrote: > RM instituted the ability to generate files for a website using XML and > Javascript in version 6, and have continued to make that option > available in version 7. Charlie Use the sharable CD. It works great for what you want I think. Available on RM 6 or RM7. I think there was a webinar on that too. But even using the sharable CD is a bit too much of a challenge for some of the elderly members. > > On 5/29/16, Charlie Hoffpauir via <rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com> wrote: >> RM instituted the ability to generate files for a website using XML and >> Javascript in version 6, and have continued to make that option >> available in version 7.
