I don't understand why people do a backup and restore - why not just copy the xxxxxx.rmgc file to the new computer using a flash drive (or over your home network). You will also have to copy over any media files of course. All you need is the registration code to get it properly installed. Next make a backup of your most recent RM file from the old computer and put it on a flash drive. Then put the flash drive in your new computer. On the new computer click file, then restore backup, then navigate to the letter of the flash drive and let it restore. If you wish you can designate specific folders to place files in, but it might just be easier to let the program place the folders where it wants initially, and you can make changes later. You can do it either way. Operationally there is not much difference between a backup and restore using an intermediate medium compared to copying a file to an intermediate medium then copying the file again to the destination computer. Back in the previous versions of RM when the database consisted of something like 33 or 35 separate files it was a lot easier to use the backup and restore. If you are copying to another computer on the same network, the backup and restore would add an extra step over a plain copy of the file.
