    3. Hello I have 2 questions I need help with. Firstly, I have got 2 family databases with mostly the same information on them. How do I go about amalgamating them both into 1 database without losing any information. Secondly, I am still using RootsMagic 3 and would like to buy 2 copies of the latest version for myself to load on a laptop and a desktop. I would also like to buy 4 software for my sisters and brothers as a Christmas present so I can share the info on more computers. My question is will the version 3 database be easily picked up by the latest version or have I left it too long ? When I initially purchased version 3 there was a UK version or the US version. Is this still the case? Does the latest version still allow you to make a CD as this was a feature I really enjoyed and made lots of cds to spread the joy with relatives overseas in Europe. Best Regards Peter Snepvangers Sydney, Australia

    3. I don't have experience with RM3. RM7 has "Merge" tools and "File compare" to help in combining databases. But great care must be taken to avoid duplication of people, events, places, sources. RM7 imports RM3 files and still produces "Shareable CD". UK and US versions are identical. UK bundles some other stuff in a more expensive package. You need only one licence for your desktop and laptop ( it is a household licence ). 3. Thanks Tom that helps a lot in my understanding. Do you think I should setup RM7 first and then try to merge the 2 databases, or should I muck with RM3 and try to merge before using RM7? 3. I think you will be better supported by upgrading your two databases to RM7 and working with it. You can have both databases open tiled side by side, sorted the same way with identical views and step through each looking for different people an drag'n'drop the needed people from one to the other. Use File Compare to find differences between matching people and selectively transfer info. Use Duplicate Search Merge on your master database to find duplicate people within it and merge. There is also Place merge tool.
