    3. This is great. Thanks Jerry. I think I will set up a group because I will be researching this group intensely in the next few months. Am I correct that all of the reports are available for the groups? I can see where a custom report will work also. Next question - I have been entering information from marriage records. There are several pieces of information on one record. Is there a way to site the previous source or is it necessary to enter the marriage vol. and pg. number each time. I have used TMG for many years; I continue to touch F3 that will give you the last 15 items for that field. Is there such a repeat button in RM? Still using TMG for my own genealogy. I was not able to import a FTM2014 database into TMG, but it imported into RM perfectly. -----Original Message----- From: rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jerry Bryan via Sent: Friday, April 01, 2016 9:33 PM To: rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RMagic] Reports Lists You can do it with a Custom Report. There are two different pieces to the puzzle. Piece #1 is the selection process - to select only people with the fact. You can do the selection as a part of creating a custom report. But it's probably better to create a group of the people with the fact and then to base your custom report in that group. Either way, your selection criteria is going to be something like Death->Exists->is True (for the death fact, adjust the selection criteria for any other fact). Piece #2 is the formatting process - where you format your custom report. You will want to create columns for the person's name, for their birthdate, and for the date and place of the fact you are selecting on. The process of creating custom reports is not rocket science exactly, but neither is it necessarily easy for a new RM user. Check out the videos on how to create custom reports. An easier way is to create the group as described in Piece #1, to switch to People View, to create a column for birth date, to create columns for the date and place of your chosen fact, and to tell People View to display only your chosen group. This doesn't create a printed report, but it does display the data of interest on the screen. It also has the advantage that you can edit people directly from People View, and that you can easily switch back and forth between People View and the other views. 3. Thanks so much Margaret...You were right...apparently when I moved everything over from TMG, the vast majority came over as dead, even the living. I have spent the last 2 days going thru 18000 people and marking living for the living and anyone I don't want to publish...ended up with 413. Made a group of "dead" and created a gedcom which was all dead people...now to get it up to WorldConnect -- there is definitely a learning curve! 3. Your experience of exporting names from RootsMagic has been my experience. I believe RootsMagic has a design flaw in its software. Try creating a GROUP with the names of those you are trying to extract. Then try and extract the GROUP. I have had some success with this approach. Joseph W. 3. Oh yes! Filled the 2 ½ inch 3-ring binder!!! Getting close to having to print a new one due to all the updates I’ve made !!!! Thanks, everyone, for all the feedback! 1. Re: [RMagic] confused on gedcom
    2. MScheffler via
    3. I assume you are wanting to place your gedcom online and are trying to read some sites privacy policy. But the same applies if you want to send it to an individual. Within Rootsmagic, Click on "gedcom export". That brings up a screen to chose all the options including those in the right column to privatize various notes, etc. If you want to have only dead people in your gedcom that you will be making, don't choose the top choice which means to export everybody "everyone" and instead choose "select from list". The previous choice will take you to another screen, where you can choose to export only dead people. That is what I do when I want to put a gedcom file online. Once you have made your gedcom and want to place it online someplace, like MyHeritage, Ancestry, etc. you would follow their instructions and read their policies about what is shared. However, if you don't include living people in the first place, you won't have to worry about any living people for the public to see no matter what the other company's privacy policy. Margaret Scheffler -----Original Message----- From: Emery St Cyr via Subject: [RMagic] confused on gedcom I have uploaded a gedcom to export and didn't get a box to check private or public. And I didn't get to read the agreement before I have to check that I agree with it. What did I do wrong? Em
