That is almost perfect for what I want. I would like to have the year of birth with the person, but I can get it in the index so it is available - just a little flipping back and forth between the list and the index. My list is 40 pages plus index of 5 pages. This is for the group I set up. Easier to go get those marriage records since I have the name of the spouse, the children and the parents all together. Do a memorize and paste. RM does not have a list of recently used sources. The closest you can come is that you can mark sources as favorites to put them at the top of the list. It's a manual process, but you can mark your most recent sources as favorites. Not all reports are available for groups because not all would make sense. For example, a descendant report lists all descendants and pays no attention to groups. But all custom reports can work off of groups. One tricky thing about custom reports is that the formatting of the report and the selection of the people are totally separate. So if you get a report formatted exactly right, you would still have to select the people every time you run the report. For that reason, it's usually best to have a group to make the selection of the people easier. Here is what I mean by "formatting". Suppose you want a birth report that shows name, birth date, and birth place. You would format a custom report that has those three columns - name, birth date, and birth place. You then might make a group for people born after 1950 and another group for people born between 1900 and 1950. You could run the same custom report with those three columns either for the first group or for the second group. But the selection of the group is not a part of the definition of the report. The definition of the report is just the columns that are in the report. Jerry This is great. Thanks Jerry. I think I will set up a group because I will be researching this group intensely in the next few months. Am I correct that all of the reports are available for the groups? I can see where a custom report will work also. Next question - I have been entering information from marriage records. There are several pieces of information on one record. Is there a way to site the previous source or is it necessary to enter the marriage vol. and pg. number each time. I have used TMG for many years; I continue to touch F3 that will give you the last 15 items for that field. Is there such a repeat button in RM? Still using TMG for my own genealogy. I was not able to import a FTM2014 database into TMG, but it imported into RM perfectly. =================================== RM list Archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/ROOTSMAGIC-USERS/ http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search?path=ROOTSMAGIC-USERS WISH LIST: http://www.rootsmagic.com/forums/ BLOG: http://blog.rootsmagic.com/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ROOTSMAGIC-USERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message =================================== RM list Archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/ROOTSMAGIC-USERS/ http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search?path=ROOTSMAGIC-USERS WISH LIST: http://www.rootsmagic.com/forums/ BLOG: http://blog.rootsmagic.com/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ROOTSMAGIC-USERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I'm not sure whether there is something already built into RM (couldn't find anything obvious) but I have a Custom Report for marriages. This shows a person and all their spouses and some other related data. If I run this report and use 'Select Person' not 'Everyone', I can then Mark Data based on fields - 'Number of Spouses' 'Greater than or equal' 2. This will give me a list of everyone with multiple spouses, which I can then manually check for duplicate spouse names. Although not perfect it might help. 3. The fix is very simple to get rid of those duplicates of wives& husbands. First write down the record numbers of husband and wife. Then unlink one from the other. Then relink the couple. You will now have only one. Margaret Scheffler

    3. Debra, you are not stuck with them Highlight the individual you wish to remove from spouse. Go to Edit > Unlink > from spouse. A window will open to make sure this is what you want to do. Click ok. Then since you have two or more of the same person, go back to Edit>delete and remove that person. 3. Pat Take the one you have in hand. Look at the marriage date for each. Are they different or same? Consider your source of each. If sibling had Mama marrying on one date and another had them marrying on a different date. Do either one have proof of date? Is Mama's birth the same? What is correct date? Move all children to one marriage and then Unlink Mama from Papa in marriage 2.. Hope these questions help. I just got thru doing the same thing, but watch for those like names. I have a couple by same name as older couple marrying on same date in same county. Not until census with names and age did fix it. The numbered children between age X and age Y just doesn't identify a family correctly. Good Luck. 1. [RMagic] Creating gedcom files to upload
    2. MScheffler via
    3. In deciding how to create gedcom files in RM to upload to WorldConnect, there can be the issue of what tags one might omit to improve one’s presentation. The extra details box should be unchecked before making the gedcom since that is specific to RM. On the upload page there are other tags one will probably want to remove. The ones I have typed in the box on the WorldConnect upload page for removal are: UID,_SDATE,COLOR,TMPLT,FIELD,VALUE,CHAN Margaret Scheffler

    3. Nancy, I'll jump in here to answer your question about repeating sources for other people. In RM you can copy a source and then paste it for the same person for various facts (I do that a lot when the source has information re parents, marriage, etc.) and also paste it as a source for others in your database. In the Citation Manager, highlight the source you want to copy and click Memorize (or Alt-M). Then to paste it, go to the source you want to paste it to, and click Alt-P. Saves a lot of time and no hassles with the mouse. Note that you might want to change the source details for other people. I love the idea FTM has of giving you the last 15 sources. Please be sure to request that for RM and I'll request it, too. The developer, Bruce Buzbee, has always been responsive to requests from users. That option would make things a lot easier for me andprobably for most users. Laurie Nelson On 4/2/2016 11:03 AM, nancy wright via wrote: > This is great. Thanks Jerry. 3. You can up load your entire database and then on WC you can tell what to show. My usual birth cut off is 1930. Anyone born after that time will not show. There numerous things you can tell it to do. I do not allow Gedcom downloads. That way if they want a gedcom they can ask me and then I will have some idea who is researching what. -----Original Message----- From: donna martin via Sent: Saturday, April 2, 2016 8:29 AM To: MScheffler ; rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RMagic] confused on gedcom Thanks so much Margaret...You were right...apparently when I moved everything over from TMG, the vast majority came over as dead, even the living. I have spent the last 2 days going thru 18000 people and marking living for the living and anyone I don't want to publish...ended up with 413. Made a group of "dead" and created a gedcom which was all dead people...now to get it up to WorldConnect -- there is definitely a learning curve!
