    3. I added a spouse to someone who was already in the database. I can't find the spouse I added in the list of persons. I must have had the caps lock on when I typed his name. I want to edit it so that his first and middle name are not in all caps, but I can't find him. I can see him when I look at the marriage for the spouse who is already in the database. Does RM not automatically add a spouse to the persons list when added as a marriage partner? Nancy, a new user

    3. There were no "Database Tools" in version 4, not even Compact because SQLite actually deletes records whereas xBase used in RM3 only marked records for deletion. Compact then deleted them. 3. My posting from a couple days ago never showed up on the list. It was in response to the user of RM4 who was looking for Database tools. A couple days back I suggested there were" database tools" in the earlier versions of Rootsmagic. After reading several times in messages that there were none, I just booted up an old XP computer which had RM3. Sure enough under the file menu was an item to Rebuild indexes. Clicking on that, one could either "pack" the database and/or rebuild the indexes. I have done this regularly with most versions of RM and Family Origins I was using. I then saw I had RM4 on that XP computer, but found I have no database in it; I remember I had found RM3 to my liking and never switched to the next version until RM5. I did not see an option for rebuilding indexes and packing in it, but without a database, I am not sure if that is the case. Perhaps the tools were missing from that version or perhaps someone is smarter than me in finding them. I too would suggest an update from RM4 which did not have so of the really good new features of the later versions. Margaret Scheffler

    3. You are right. You do have to unlink each one, one at a time from set of parents and have the correct parents add a child (already in listing.) When all children have been moved or added to correct parents ; then go to parents without children and unlink family. This now leaves each parent with only one marriage Is that better explained, Donna? 3. In RM7 I printed out a family group sheet in Jan 2016 and I recently went back to add more data to their sheet and found that everything that was on the family group sheet was gone except for the father and mothers name and info on 1 child out of the three that are on the group sheet. What did I do to change that? I guess that I will have to re do it. Nothing else is appearing in the index either. The two children not listed have their numbers from when they were added. Em

    3. How about having attendees bring their own lap tops if there are enough plug-ins or if enough battery power. They could download the free version and "play along" with your explanations. Perhaps the society would plan more programs for in-depth teaching or plan separate meetings just for RootsMagic users. My society has done this for 2 meetings on overall use of computers for genealogy. After FTM it all looks so bland, like plain typed pages. 3. Sourcing still seems complicated, as it does in FTM, but I finally learned that, more or less. Now a whole new system! Thanks for asking. 3. Dick, Feel free to use any webinar (http://rootsmagic.com/webinars), video ( http://rootsmagictv.com) or guide (http://rootsmagic.com/guides) in your presentation (or preparation) for it. It's tough to show much in just a half hour, so you'll only have time to lightly touch on a few things and won't be able to go into much detail. - Bruce On Tue, Apr 5, 2016 at 8:28 AM, Richard Akins via < rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com> wrote: > I have been asked to give a short talk in August about Roots Magic to our > local genealogical society. 3. I recently did a presentation for our local Genealogy user group, focused on the ease of converting from FTM to RootsMagic. I used a projector and threw som of the following onto the screen to talk about. If you have no projection capability, these would be a basis for a talk. Handouts could be made of some of the info. I started with" http://www.rootsmagic.com/ftm/ Next http://blog.rootsmagic.com/?p=2546 Next (if more info is needed about features of RootsMagic, itself) pick some of the features http://www.rootsmagic.com/RootsMagic/ It was well received Dick Murphy On Tue, Apr 5, 2016 at 7:28 AM, Richard Akins via < rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com> wrote: > I have been asked to give a short talk in August about Roots Magic to our > local genealogical society. 3. WOW! Does that bring back memories. A line in the article jumped out at me - these jobs offer the women an opportunity “above the steno” level. How things have changed - just look at what you accomplished only one generation on. Hope you are well.
