    3. Using a custom report, you can restrict it to the members of your group under the People to Include dropdown list. However, unless your group is exclusively males, the Name field cannot be labelled Groom. Under the Bride or Spouse label (depending on how your group is defined), use the field "Spouse name". If you still want to fork your database, export the group and then import that GEDCOM to a new databaase Tom On Fri, May 6, 2016 at 12:14 PM, nancy wright via < rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com> wrote: > In my database of about 3500 people I have created a group of approximately > 500. 3. In my database of about 3500 people I have created a group of approximately 500. I would like to make a new database of these 500 people. How can I do that? Some of the reports I want (like marriage list) include the entire database. I tried to create a custom report but I can't see how to get the Groom's name and Bride's names in the right columns. I did get all the names listed under Groom with a marriage date but the name in the Bride's column was the same as in the Groom's column. Nancy in Louisiana

    3. Thanks, Tom, I almost have it refined. You hit the nail on the head with the Acadia, New France. that is exactly how I had entered that place name, so I was contradicting myself by wanting France but not Acadia. Here's my next effort: *Marriage date is after 1662* *and Marriage date is before 1674* *and Birth place contains france* *and Sex is female* *and Marriage place does not contain acadia, new france* I still had one person who was born in acadia, so I added: *and Birth place does not contain acadia, new france* And so far, it looks like it worked! thanks for your help, Margie in Washington state On Wed, May 4, 2016 at 12:12 PM, Tom Holden <ve3meo@gmail.com> wrote: > The Any Fact criteria contributes to your unwanted result - all it takes > is for the person who satisfies the first three criteria to have any fact > not containing Acadia to be included. 3. The Any Fact criteria contributes to your unwanted result - all it takes is for the person who satisfies the first three criteria to have any fact not containing Acadia to be included. Your third criteria satisfies your fourth so you should get everyone born in France who married between 1662 and 1674 anywhere. I am surprised that you get people born in Acadia unless the Place is actually "Acadia, New France". Maybe you meant to type "married", not "born", as that is logical. What you describe as your goal would be satisfied by changing your fourth criterion to And Marriage Place does not contain Acadia. That will work reliably provided a person has one and only one Marriage event and likewise one Birth event so that the criteria for a Fact Type apply simultaneously to the same event. Otherwise one event can satisfy one criterion while another event of the same type can satisfy another. Tom On Wednesday, 4 May 2016, M. A. 3. I am trying to create a custom report to list all the women in my database who were born in France and married in Canada between 1662 and 1674 and NOT married in Acadian. I am choosing by data fields: Marriage date is after 1662 and Marriage date is before 1674 and Birth place contains france and Any Fact place does not contain Acadia And I am still getting people who were born in Acadia. Why? Apparently, I am not entering my search criteria right, but I don't know how to change it. What I would really like is list of women only, so I added and Sex is female But I still get marriage info from Acadia Thanks Margie in Washington State

    1. Re: [RMagic] Creating a 'group' within a 'group'
    2. Pat McGrath via
    3. I have done something like that to get the report I need. Mother's fathers side is RED, mother's mothers side is BLUE. Then create the 'group' of my mother's ancestors. Turns out I can't do details next with colors and B-M-D-Bu (not enough space for that many options)! So, with the colors, I created an Anhentafal report ... that shows the colors as to which lines. Then saved the report, did a search for each of the 3 locations I needed to Identify, and highlighted them in 3 separate colors. Now I have a 25 page report, the two lines identified by the color coding, and the locations highlighted. It's NOT the way I would have liked ---- but it will serve the purpose. Need to convert the report to a PDF and then pull it over so it appears on my IPad for the trip!!!!! Thanks everyone for the various suggestions. REQUEST for TECH SUPPORT: Could you find a way to do a sub-group under/within a group please! At least put it on the list! Pat McGrath -----Original Message----- From: rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jerry Bryan via Sent: Tuesday, May 03, 2016 8:57 PM To: 'RootsMagic Users List ' Subject: Re: [RMagic] Creating a 'group' within a 'group' >> Hi: I have created a 'group' of my mother's ancestors. I'm a little late to this thread, but I would suggest that there is no direct way to create a subgroup from a group in RM. Which is to say that group membership is not a criterion that can be used for searching or marking or anything like that. But if you wish to be a little bit creative and if you don't mind using color coding in a somewhat temporary fashion, you can use color coding as a surrogate for group membership. And having done so, you can search and mark based on color coding. For example, create your group of your mother's ancestors - say it's called mothers ancestors. Suppose nobody in your database is color coded. So color code some people green, and use as your color coding criteria the named group mothers_ancestors. Then make a new group where you mark three times - 1) color coding is green AND birth place contains kentucky, 2 ) color coding is green AND marriage place contains kentucky, 3) color coding is green and death place contains kentucky. Replace "kentucky" with the place name of your choice. Having done this process, clear your color codes, and your new group will be the set of people who are your mother's ancestors and who were born, married, or died in your particular location. 1. [RMagic] Update 3-May?
    2. Rick H via
    3. Upon opening RM yesterday I was greeted by a 'Update Available', so I went to the download page and grabbed a copy BUT ... Both the download page and the Forums RootsMagic 7 Update History still show 7.1.0.7. Is the update real or is there just a bit of hanging chad in the system? \s\Rick --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

    3. >> Hi: I have created a 'group' of my mothers ancestors. NOW I want to >> create >> a sub group - her ancestors that were born, married or died in a >> particular >> location. Can I do that? My trials have been unsuccessful! For example, create your group of your mother's ancestors - say it's called mothers_ancestors. Jerry

    3. I’ve tried that a couple of times, Tom, and I don’t seem to be getting it! Have tried it both directions --- marking first all B-M-D-Bu in place then unmarking those not colored RED And marking those colored RED and unmarking those NOT B-M-D-Bu in place! There just has to be a way for this to be created within RM and not lists I have to pluck folks out of if they match!!!! I am trying to find the people in grandmother & grandfathers lines (my mom’s line) B-M-D-Bu in Grand-Pre ----- doesn’t that ‘sound’ basically simple???? Anyone --- another suggestion? This should work: 1. Clear colour coding for the colour you are going to use in the next step, say, red. 2. Set your group of Mother's ancestors to red. 3. Create a named group using these criteria: 1. Mark Group>Select people by data fields>Birth/Place contains... OR Married/Place contains... OR Death/Place contains... 2. Unmark Group>Clear people by data fields>Color coding is NOT Red 3. Bruce --- there must be a way that RootsMagic could produce this rather than the hills and valleys above???????
