    3. Jim, No I can't. As I sta65ted in my original post, I get a notice ". . . .you are already using the latest version" when I try. As I also said in the original post, that is no6t really much of a problem, and I assume it will resolve itself with future updates, but this seems kind of strange and I've never seen this happen before. As I think about it now, I do seem to vaguely recall something like this happening before in one form or another, but my aging gray matter can't come up with the details but no matter. 2. David E. Cann via
    3. This is no great deal, but it puzzles me. I recently updated my wife's RM and my own, and noticed later mine is RM "7.2.0.0 (2 May 2016)" and hers is "7.2.0.1 (5 May 2016" per the information in the Help menu. Okay then, thinking I had missed a minor update somewhere, I tried to update my own once again but was told my 7.2.0.0 is the latest version and there is no update available to it. If that is the case, then why do we each have different version numbers with different release dates? I'm now in my 15th version of Family Origins and/or RootsMagtic, but I have never seen something like this before. Just to satisfy my curiosity, does anyone have any idea what all this means? I suspect it will all resolve itself by default when the next update comes out and the versions will be the same again, but I'm curious and have never seen this happen before that I can recall. 3. Margaret, The only time I have had a similar issue is when I have inadvertently minimized a window rather than closing it - the minimized window is sitting in the bottom left hand corner and you cannot then close the main window. I can't remember if I got any error message though - just an apparent lockup - solved by closing the offending minimized window. Eventually I have to do Control-Alt-Del and go to task manager to exit Rootsmatic. This is very annoying and it just happened for the second time today. This has been an ongoing problem with this version, but probably the only error I have encountered in the entering of thousands of names since RM7 came out. 3. I don't use it a lot but then I'm not doing very much work on my database either, at least not research. That said, I find it handy to initiate a search on a person with WebSearch and then revise the search in the site search form. So it acts like a basic form filler tool, saving that initial step. But that does not save very much time compared to that taken by reviewing results and refining the search. I accept that it launches a pretty wide search that can produce many results but that seems reasonable. I always narrow and widen different search terms on the same person in trying to ferret out relevant info. What data can be brought back into RM by using the internal browser? I've not discovered this feature, probably because I opted for the external pretty much from the get-go. 3. I suspect that a great many RM users find Websearch to be very useful, so I am probably an exception. I do not use Websearch at all, and so it's not useful to me at all. It's the only main RM view that I do not use. I find all the other main RM views to be extremely useful. My reasons are two-fold. One is that I really like to set up searches myself. On virtually every genealogy web site I use, I use only the "exact" searching options or whatever equivalent to "exact" as exists. I enter a fairly minimal amount of information. For example, entering a death date in an exact search will pretty well eliminate all census records from your search. I use wildcards when available and I use date ranges, etc. But I don't want millions or even thousands of hits. I want my searching to be very precise. Also, I often enter data elements into my searches not supported by Websearch, for example marriage places, etc. Websearch does not give me that kind of control over searches. The other reason is that I want my searches to run in a browser window separate from RM. I hate the whole RM modal window thing, and it's easier for me just to run searches in a browser window I've opened. I realize that RM has an option so that searches run by Websearch will run in external browser. But if I'm going to do that, I can just set up the search myself, which is what I want to do anyway. And when you run Websearch searches in a separate window, the searches cannot bring any data back into RM. Jerry On 5/6/2016 15:27, Pat McGrath via wrote: > Hi: Could I get a bit of feedback please. 3. I use it all the time. I have an Ancestry membership, so I am constantly using it to search Ancestry for the person I am currently researching. I really haven't used it for any other website. I don't belong to any of the others, and while I know several of them are free, I just haven't used it for anything other than Ancestry. How useful do people find 'websearch' in RootsMagic? Not webhints, but the websearch tab and its functions. Thanks Pat Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile. =================================== RM list Archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/ROOTSMAGIC-USERS/ http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search?path=ROOTSMAGIC-USERS WISH LIST: http://www.rootsmagic.com/forums/ BLOG: http://blog.rootsmagic.com/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ROOTSMAGIC-USERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Completely agree with you, Jerry - I, too, never use it and have no plans to. I do not use Websearch at all, and so it's not useful to me at all. It's the only main RM view that I do not use. I find all the other main RM views to be extremely useful.
