    1. [RMagic] Need a report of all sources connected to a particular source template
    2. donna martin via
    3. I am new to RM and have created a pluperfect mess...I need to go back to an earlier backup and will lose a new source template I added with new sources connected to it. So I need to know which sources those were. In TMG I could make a report for a particular source template which would give me the sources based on that template and the number of citations for those sources. Example: Source Type/Template Source name Citations Cemetery Marker Old Dutch Cmtry NY 33 Happy hunting! Donna Martin Anderson, SC

    1. [RMagic] Help with Cemetery List
    2. JOANNE BECKER via
    3. Part of my family is from Sibley County, Minnesota. The local historical society is trying to get the oldest cemetery in Henderson on the national register so they are looking for family history information on families buried in this cemetery. Can someone tell me how to create a custom report showing a descendant list from our oldest relative in Sibley County including where everyone was buried (place and place detail)? I could then modify the report and highlight all buried in the Brown Cemetery. Note that I have Burial as a separate fact with Brown Cemetery as Place Detail. There would be two locations that Brown Cemetery would be located in - Henderson Township, Sibley County and Henderson, Sibley County. The reason for this is that some of the older relatives died and were buried when Henderson was only a township and not officially a village/city. So, if there is a way to include both, that would be helpful. Otherwise I could create a report for each location. Thank you for any and all help as this will be my first attempt to create a custom report in RootsMagic. Joanne from MN

    3. Donna, go up to your upper left and click on lists > source list. Find the one you want, tell settings you want the detail, then print. You will get your list of those attached to that source, and to what fact they are attached. 3. Thanks Tom that helps a lot in my understanding. Do you think I should setup RM7 first and then try to merge the 2 databases, or should I muck with RM3 and try to merge before using RM7? RM7 has "Merge" tools and "File compare" to help in combining databases. But great care must be taken to avoid duplication of people, events, places, sources. 3. Hi Peter, If you order your Christmas software during the holiday period, there is usually a good discount. To put software on your own laptop and desktop computers, you can use the same Rootsmagic without paying twice. About merging the two databases, you may want to think about what may and may not merge. You could have a problem with many items not merging. You might want to try drag and drop. Another issue is that the sources need to be exactly the same or they will not automatically merge. I once merged two of my own databases, and I had not always set my sources up the same way, not to mention places and entry of names and dates. I think you should NOT have trouble with RM3 updating fine with RM7. Many of the features will be the same. RM4 would have had more differences. Margaret Scheffler

    3. I think you will be better supported by upgrading your two databases to RM7 and working with it. You can have both databases open tiled side by side, sorted the same way with identical views and step through each looking for different people an drag'n'drop the needed people from one to the other. Use File Compare to find differences between matching people and selectively transfer info. Use Duplicate Search Merge on your master database to find duplicate people within it and merge. There is also Place merge tool. 3. It is the Description field concatenated with Place. It is possible that a fact type does not have one of these fields "enabled" in the Fact Type List so the field does not appear in the right panel of Edit Person but the field may have a value that shows in Fact Details. 3. In the Family View, I was looking at my Third Great Grandfather and Grandmother. They had 4 children (2 males and 2 females) One of the children is my Second Great Grandfather. It is listed down in the lower left hand corner of the Family View as such. The 2 females in the family are my Second Great Grandaunt. Both of them are listed down in the lower left hand corner of the Family View as such. The other child (a male) is also listed and I would think that it would be my Second Great GrandUncle. However, there is no listing as such in the lower Left hand corner of the family View. I looked at other Third Great Grandfathers in the Family View and their children. They seem show Grandaunt and Granduncle just fine. Anyone have an idea why this might be happening? Gary

    3. Just an update on the post I made last night.... Windows 10 has a nice option.... if you have an ISO image of a CD or a DVD, simply double click on it and Windows will mount it as another drive, giving it the next available drive letter. Once that is done, browse to the file autorun.exe on that drive, double click on it, and then RM's web pages will start up directly. To eliminate the CD image as a drive, right click on it and Eject the phantom CD. If you leave the CD image mounted as a drive, you can repeat the process of restarting the web page for at least several times... however, there is apparently a limit to this, because last night I was getting the message that the license had expired when I did this. Should that happen, it seems to be fixed by ejecting the image and re-mounting it. -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Re: [RMagic] A fairly technical question about web site files generated by RM Date: Wed, 1 Jun 2016 22:02:39 -0500 From: Charlie Hoffpauir <CRHoffpauir@gmail.com> To: Tom Holden <ve3meo@gmail.com> On 6/1/2016 4:42 PM, Tom Holden wrote: > > > On Wed, Jun 1, 2016 at 5:26 PM, Charlie Hoffpauir > <crhoffpauir@gmail.com> wrote: > > > Tom, > > Many thanks for all the information. My initial testing was all done on an ISO file I generated using Nero (so as not to waste a lot of CD blanks), and indeed, just clicking on the autorun.exe file started the web site directly. However, now I see it now gives me a message that the license is invalid. When I insert an actual CD created from that ISO, Win 10 asks me what I want to do with the inserted CD. The first option is "Start DWebPro", and if I click that , then the web site starts just like you reported. The default browser is Chrome, and that is what is opening. -- Charlie Hoffpauir http://my.rootsmagic.com/CRHoffpauir/ http://sites.rootsmagic.com/CharlieHoffpauir/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~charlieh/ http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Hoffpauir
