    1. [RMagic] Problems with Ancestry.com/ FTM for MAC
    2. Paul Studly
    3. MAC People are wondering about moving to something other than FTM and are concerned about the limits of GEDCOM import into Reunion. Substantial LinkedIn discussion is going on at Genealogical <http://www.linkedin.com/groups?home=&gid=106885&trk=anet_ug_hm> & Historical Research on this matter. FYI Problems with Ancestry.com/ FTM for MAC If anyone is using any version of Family TreeMaker for MAC you most likely are unable to connect to the internet or sync your tree to Ancestry ( which owns FTM ) The message is usually that your firewall is blocking access, which is false. This has been going on for a week, and Ancestry knows about it but refuses to make it known publicaly for fear of the bad PR. They do acknowledge the problem deep inside a blog ( of all places! ) rather than post it on their website. Nor have they sent out emails to users, which they could have since they have our email on file. Calls to customer service are basically the same : they know about the problem but will not or cannot say when or how it will be fixed. I did manage to get one sympathetic rep on the phone who told me that even they have not been told anything about the problem. To me that is very poor management. Ancestry.com has grown so much until it seems they think they are above approach. We should all demand not only refunds for the days we can use the online features but threaten to cancel our subscriptions. Personally I am demanding that they refund me the purchase price if this expensive and mostly useless software. Paul A. 1. [RMagic] Birth Date missing on some reports - for All people
    2. Betty Stokes
    3. I tried everything. Finally, I tried making a FGS for a different family. Again the birth event was missing. Even when I had chosen to print everything. I kept trying families and finding that birth was missing on all of them. Then I went to the person I originally noticed the missing birth event. From there, I made a report for his father. There were about 11 children in that family. All were missing the birth date including the parents except for the last 3 children on the list. They followed the individual I had been working on. Those 3 were blank dates. The other siblings were missing the birth date regardless of whether they had information or not This is the same FGS. No birth was shown on any of the earlier Family's FGS including my grandfather. I am beginning to think I need to reinstall RM5 (last update) and find the latest backup and backtrack from there. Does anyone else have a suggestion? Betty

    3. Botyh the FGS and the summary have selection boxes to print or not print the private facts for your starting individual. Read them carefully and generate a preview report before printing. If the dates are on the previews then they should print. If not your printer program may be causing the problem. 3. Is it just this one person's birth date which does not print on the Family Group Sheet or do none of the birth dates print there? If it is just the one, check the person's Edit person window and see if you checked it at Private or something. How about checking the Family Group sheet option to "Include basic events even if blank" - Is it possible that person's Birth fat is a user defined one? If none of the birth dates print on a FGS, check the Birth fact on the fact types list and see if the checkmark is missing from "Include When" - "Family group sheets." 3. Still doesn't work on those 2 reports. I tried to change the name of Land Lottery to a "not custom" fact using the option to change a fact. That didn't work. 3. The relationship note is not on the edit person window, it is at the bottom left of the main screen. If you cannot see it, you could have the window moved a bit too low. Try maximizing the RootsMagic window by clicking on the center icon in the group of three at the upper right corner. (the single square changes to two cascaded squares when changed to maximized) Or, just drag the reduced size window high enough so you can see the bottom border where the relationship is located. 3. In one of the main screen views, just right click on the person and choose delete. First, I would go to the TOOLS menu and click on "Filoe Options" then, in the center right of the General window, choose Record number as the number you wish to display after name. Then, if the two "people have the same number, you should just delete one of the families and not the person. 3. Hi Joy, I would suggest that you merge the individuals instead of removing them. Go to help, contents search, I put in the search terms 'delete a duplicate name'. It retrieves a list, one of them in the titles is Duplicate Search Merge. You have choices to find people where the following information matches under names, birth or death information. You can enter the information and the window gives you the directions on how to merge the names. These instructions are in RM5. I hope it helps in resolving your issue. I need to find out how to remove (or delete) a person. I added the new husband of a granddaughter. Then I tried to add his parents. Somehow I have duplicated their names, so I would like to remove them totally and then start from scratch and make sure I add them correctly. I can find unlink a child from parents, but not parents from child. I can also find delete facts, but it's not the fact I want to delete, it's the people. Thanks for help with this.
