    3. I made the mistake of separating the Cemetery name from the place name when I merged several of the same place names. I saw the place name (city, county, State) had been merged until there was just one place. But when I looked there were almost a dozen cemeteries all together. I do have the source but it is a pain to put all those people back in their cemeteries. Betty -----Original Message----- From: rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of David E. Cann Sent: Monday, August 13, 2012 12:21 PM To: RootsMagic Users List Posting Subject: [RMagic] Printing a "place detail report" Is there any way of printing out a report with the same options as with a place name (including photos especially), but for a place DETAIL? In other words, we've had the capability to do it with a city name all along but not a cemetery within that same city that is entered as a place detail. I am about to report this as a recommended program enhancement, but before I do want to make sure I am not missing the capability to print place detail reports somewhere. For weeks (months?) now, I have been using that wonderful little tool Bruce gave us to split my 5,500 place names and show cemeteries and the like as place details, but I have recently realized that doing so also removes the possibility of printing out a printed report for the cemetery or other place detail that used to be a place name. I can no longer print a listing of a given cemetery when I go to visit, or an album of pictures ONLY for a given cemetery, and that IMHO is a very large step backwards. I understand the cemetery can be included in a normal place name report along with the city place name, but that is not the same thing. I hope someone out there will straighten me out and tell me how to print a report on a place detail identical in options to a place name. Otherwise, I will ask the RootsMagician to include it in a future enhancement. David E. 3. Lloyd I use the source as Find a Grave.com. I also have a fact set up foor FindaGrave. On the edit page select this and I use description for the Memorial number with the date I copied info. Under notes I paste the owner/care taker info. This fact can be sorted as well as my earlier less detailed sources. Using the tombstone picture with the pix owner or taken by info in the pix description. FindaGrave memorials are getting quite detailed in I found one with his 13 children, buurial locations along with their children and spouses of each. When I don't want all those in my database or lack time, I copy and paste the list under notes of the marriage. This puts a future research list on both parents. Finding this much on a family can get time consuming in downloading pix and details. Allow time. Oh I put a Flower on those I have visited and copied both for a marker and a memorial o my own to the deceased. Jon *** . 2. David E. Cann
    3. Jon, There were 33 of them, but it is resolved now by changing the entries one at a time. This was caused when I made the original place entry of a church and verified the location, but unknowingly used the MAILING address, and that was in another small town nearby. By the time I realized it, I had made 33 entries so was hoping of finding a way of moving the place detail to the correct town, but there is no way of doing it that I can find. To be honest, this is a nearly unique set of events that will likely never come up in the same way again, so little if any need for the capability in the first place. Just looking for a shorter solution to my problem, but it's all moot now because I've now moved all 33 entries to the correct small village and deleted the place detail from the small village that apparently now delivers mail to them. <sigh> David E. 1. Re: [RMagic] Family history desktop
    2. Michael Reich
    3. That's a perfect use of a batch file. Batch files are plain text files with the ".bat" extension and they are executable. So you might create a batch file named "genealogy.bat" with your desired commands. I don't know what version of Windows you're using, and I'm not terribly familiar with the latest versions (since I use a Mac), but a batch file is a script (plain text) file that contains commands, which can include commands to open specific programs. Whether the specific programs can open a specific document from the command line argument depends on the programs, but at the very least, you could have a batch file that opened RM, the text editor, etc. The commands to include in the batch file would be essentially the same as that in the various shortcuts you use to open the programs individually. An example of a command line to open a text editor with 3 files named file1, file2, file3: "C:\Program Files\Editpad\EditPad.exe" file1 file2 file3 To open the IrfanView program with specific files: "C:\Program Files\IRView\i_view32.exe" file1.jpg file2.jpg So you might start out with a batch file with three lines like this: "C:\Program Files\Editpad\EditPad.exe" file1 file2 file3 "C:\Program Files\IRView\i_view32.exe" file1.jpg file2.jpg "C:\Program Files\RootsMagic\RootsMagic.exe" For details on batch files, google "batch file tutorials" and you'll find lots of help, such as this: http://commandwindows.com/batch.htm Hope this helps.
