I did it another way. I created two empty databases, one I named All Living. to that one I dragged and droppen the family(ies) in which I was interested. In the All living database I went to the tools menu and selected "Set Living" and set it to true for everyone in that database. From there I created a GEDCOM file of everyone in the database and privatized everyone using full names and NO facts. I then imported this GEDCOM file into the second database, "No Facts" from which I created the name only Family Group Sheets. It did still list the spouses though. It sounds complicated, but it took me more time to explain and type it than it did to do it.. Alfred ============= A1 wrote: > Hello. The Fairfax/Metro DC area Users Group will be meeting Sunday, Aug 19, 1-4 pm at the Fairfax City Regional Library (details and future dates below)). The topics for discussion will be using the research manager or to-do list (what is the difference, etc) and how does this relate to GenSmarts? Also, if any of you have done large format charts and can bring it, that would be great for the rest of us to see. And general questions or finds to share as time permits! The quick and obvious way would be to: 1. create a new blank database 2. drag the family of interest over to it 3. delete any facts, dates, notes, and sources you do not want to print on the FGS Repeat step 3 until you have what you want. If you delete too much, start over or delete the family and drag them over again. When done, you can delete the database or save it to create any other specialized reports or more FGS's > Hello. This may be a bit of a tangent. I use RM5 as my definitive database. I use TNG only only as a reflection of what has been done in RM and as a repository for stories and images. I have the latest FTM. I like that it allows for easier collecting of data on several people in a family. I would like to know whether anyone has found a routine that will allow collecting data via FTM and then importing it into the master RM5 database without creating serious amounts of manual labor to undo duplications, etc. Paul Studly wrote: > Would some share > a piece detailing your FTM to RM > > experiences > likes > dislikes > problems > surprises good& bad > media items if any > sources, citations success or failure in transferring > research notes > Paul A. My experiences are that facts convert well. Media not at all. Notes are reformatted requiring a lot of rework. If one has FTM 2010 and after and have used the merge from ancestry.com sources will be a lot of work - same scrambling as in notes and many duplicate sources. jim On Aug 14, 2012 8:25 PM, "Paul Studly" <paulstudly@att.net> wrote: > Would some share > a piece detailing your FTM to RM > > experiences > likes > dislikes > problems > surprises good & bad > media items if any > sources, citations success or failure in transferring > research notes > Paul A. What Bruce said ! AND, you do not need to add the quotation marks to the nickname. In the Tools menu there is a "File Options" where one of the options lets you choose one of two ways to display the nickname. You probably resized the Add New Person screen too narrow. Somewhere you need a host. My ISP (baja broadband) and the isp before them gave subscribers disk space and access for a personal website. Assuming you have space somewhere that is internet accessible, you would make the file using rootsmagic. The usual way to transfer the file is using FTP (file transfer protocol) to move it to the space you have reserved. In both of my cases, I had to call the ISP and request the space be made available and the name reserved. There was no problem either time, but it wasn't something that happened automatically. In my case I had a simple website that has to do with my Jeep, my shop and a little of my history. I just tacked the rootsmagic file on the end and made a menu to access it. To host it yourself, you would have to have a computer that was powered on all the time and a fixed IP address. Here is what I came up with. The rootsmagic file is the bottom menu item. Try going to the RootsMagic website and look at the webinars (#18). It talked about using Dropbox to get it on the internet. I used it and it worked great. Tom, You gave me the answer I pretty much expected, while hoping deep down that you might say something different. I will keep working on moving the appropriate place names to details, but I sure hope the RootsMagician and friends can set place details to at least print reports sometime soon as the place names do. Betty, It appears to me with the limited details that your problem is that you SEPERATED the place detail from the place name, and thus lost the connection, but I've done literally hundreds of them so far one at a time with no difficulty whatsoever. That is not what I was asking about though, I am looking for a way of creating a place detail report just like the place name one that we can do now, including attached media (photos), but unless I am mistaken that capability is lost when the place detail is moved from being a place name by itself.
