I hope that some day in addition to a Mac version, to see a Linux version! :-D I've tried using RM in WINE but it's hit and miss. I ended up going back to using Virtualbox and running Windows XP inside of my Linux when I need to use RM. That would be pretty much daily, lol. As I'm writing this, I started to think if RM develops something that will work on the android it might be able to also run on linux. Although I haven't tried it there are ways to run android apps on linux... There should be no reason why you can't install it on there, if it's not a Windows tablet you won't be able to run it on the tablet itself though.
As a Mac user, I was probably happier /not/ knowing you're working on a Mac version but it's not ready! ;-) Mac genealogy software is simply not as good as RM and there are a lot of Mac users out here who will be excited to hear you are developing a Mac version. Thanks everyone for the great input on how to print a Family Group without all the facts. It was exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate it.
In one of his year end blogs, Bruce did mention that there would be a tablet version of RM released some time in 2012. We have not heard any more about this since it was originally posted. It would definitely be nice if Bruce could give us an update. I would be interested to know if this is still on track or if it has been scrapped. Recently, a competitor product was realsed that wirelessly syncs between desktop (PC or MAC) and their app for your iPhone/iPad. We are finishing up the iPad/iPhone RootsMagic reader app. It is still on target for sometime this year. For those who may want to access their full RM program from their tablet (including editing), here is an option: http://www.splashtop.com/home Splashtop is a program you install on your tablet that lets you connect to your home computer and run any of the programs on that computer (it does require internet access). So you can log into your home computer on your iPad and run the copy of RootsMagic that is installed there, and add or edit information directly into your database at home. - Bruce http://www.rootsmagic.com On Fri, Aug 17, 2012 at 9:04 AM, Ron Bernier <ronaldbernier@bernfrin.net> wrote: > In one of his year end blogs, Bruce did mention that there would be a > tablet version of RM released some time in 2012. If the display of family members doesn't have to be in "group sheet" style, try the descendants wall chart. With the wall charts (which I know as "drop-line"charts), you click the data to be displayed. If names are all you want, don't check boxes for any other information. My problems with the wall charts are 1) the information is not centered, and 2) when selecting legal size (8.5 x 14") landscape, the program merely puts wide margins on the sides of letter (8.5 x 11") displays. Even when information is not centered, everything can be moved around manually, but that's a nuisance. To email, I export as a jpg.
