What is the best way to merge place entries if I have used different versions of the name of a place? Bedford Co., MI Bedford County, Michigan etc. Is there away to make the change so the reference stays attached to the individdddual person? Jeannette
This is easy. In fact, I am in the process now of cleaning up my place list because, like you, I have used different versions of the same place. 1. Open Place List 2. Select all those you wish to merge 3. Click Merge 4. If you need to edit the final version - click Edit and make the corrections 5. Click "okay" Have fun :) I'm doing this one alpha letter at a time. I have LOTS of corrections to make Suzanne On Fri, Aug 24, 2012 at 8:47 AM, Jeannette Maxey <jsmaxey@hughes.net> wrote: > What is the best way to merge place entries if I have used different > versions of the name of a place? > > Bedford Co., MI > Bedford County, Michigan etc. > > Is there away to make the change so the reference stays attached to the > individdddual person? > > Jeannette > > > =================================== > RM list Archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/ROOTSMAGIC-USERS/ > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search?path=ROOTSMAGIC-USERS > WISH LIST: http://www.rootsmagic.com/forums/ BLOG: > http://blog.rootsmagic.com/ > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > ROOTSMAGIC-USERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
Many thanks to Bruce and Alfred for their help with creating a report for facts without sources. Finally was able to get the report done. Sharon Reinhardt--
Hello Everybody, Thanks to Cheri for her helpful advice regarding my query. It worked O.K. so that is another lesson learned. Regards, Rod.
Hello Everybody, I am fairly new to Roots Magic which I use as a secondary programme. It contains a database which I received as a gedcom and which contains more than five thousand people and concerns my daughter-in-law's ancestry. I have been looking at the various headings in Lists and then used the one for places. One of the locations, which is an address, interests me and my query, please, is how can I identify which person in the database is the one to whom the place in question is attributable? I suppose I could refer that question to the person from whom I obtained the Gedcom but hopefully the programme has a way in which I can do it myself. I just checked my old copy of 4.1.2.1 and it is there under the Reports menu, Lists , Fact list. Click "Create report" then use the Dropdown window under "Create a list of:" gives you the choice of "Facts without sources". When you choose that one, the source type choice goes away. The same thing is available under the Lists menu, Fact types list, Print. Did you click the drop list that says "Create a list of:" to see the option I mentioned? That Fact List has 8 different options, one of which is facts w/o sources. - Bruce http://www.rootsmagic.com On Mon, Aug 20, 2012 at 8:08 AM, Sharon Reinhardt <mtgirl1959@gmail.com> wrote: > Before writing and asking about the report Facts Without Sources I had > checked the List of reports the only one listed was "Fact List" and it a > list of people with or without a particular fact. > I am using RM 4.1.2.1. Before writing and asking about the report Facts Without Sources I had checked the List of reports the only one listed was "Fact List" and it a list of people with or without a particular fact. I am using RM 4.1.2.1. Do I have to reinstall RM 4 to get this feature? Sharon Reinhardt
Go to the place list and find the place and highlight it. Then click on the "Print" button at the top of the list and choose to print items from that place. It will list every time that place is listed in the database. Sharon, It's under Reports > Lists > Fact List. Once there one of the lists you can select is "Facts without Sources". I can remember in earlier versions of Roots Magic of a feature that you could print out a report call "Facts without Sources." This was very helpful when I had missed adding a source to a fact. For some reason I am having a hard time finding this report in RM 4. Can anyone tell me if this feature is still available and where to find it in the program. Thanks for your help, Sharon R.
There has been much speculation/opinion related to the original poster's question. Unfortunately, no one has made the suggestion to contact Rootsmagic directly. Bruce and/or a member of his staff are the only ones who can provide a definitve answer. It is possible to structure a software license more like a lease which lacks transferability. I.E., a sub lease could be prohibited. How the RM software license is structured is beyond my knowledge. Just an opinion here, but if someone bought ver 5 as a "upgrade", that is, at discount because they already had version 4, then they are not allowed to either sell or give version 4 away. However, if they bought version 5 at full retail, then it would seem they have the right to either sell or give version 4 away, and then it should be transferable. Hw=owever, they should check the license, it may tell us more than we realize. I looked, but can't find a copy on my computer, but I'm sure I must have "accepted" some restrictions when I originally loaded the program. On 8/18/2012 4:29 PM, David E. Thanks for all the responses and suggestions. I am just a bit leery of the things that connect to my laptop from afar. And, as a non-I person, the ipad version won't help. Sigh. But, I can at least have reports and such to read and work form, just won't be able to update as i work. (I do like having To-Go for that!!) You can also use LogMeIn on the iPad, iPhone or Android tablet to do the same, it's actually fairly usable, though not ideal :) On 17 August 2012 16:13, RootsMagic <rootsmagic@gmail.com> wrote: > We are finishing up the iPad/iPhone RootsMagic reader app. It is > still on target for sometime this year. > > For those who may want to access their full RM program from their > tablet (including editing), here is an option: > > http://www.splashtop.com/home > > Splashtop is a program you install on your tablet that lets you > connect to your home computer and run any > of the programs on that computer (it does require internet access). > So you can log into your home computer > on your iPad and run the copy of RootsMagic that is installed there, > and add or edit information directly > into your database at home. > > - Bruce > http://www.rootsmagic.com > > > On Fri, Aug 17, 2012 at 9:04 AM, Ron Bernier <ronaldbernier@bernfrin.net> wrote: >> In one of his year end blogs, Bruce did mention that there would be a >> tablet version of RM released some time in 2012.
