RootsMagic 5 will not import a RootsMagic 4 database. It will open one, It will restore a RootsMagic 4 backup. But it will not import a version 4 database. If you OPEN a RootsMagic 4 database with RootsMagic 5 it will be converted so that you can nlonger open that file with RootMagic 4. So if you want to use the file in RM4, make a copy to open with RM5 within a new RM5 folder or restore the RM4 backup with RM5 into a different folder than the one in which RM4 database is stored. The only way I can think of where the RM4 sources wouldn't be transferred through a GEDCOM file to RM5 would be if you had unchecked the SOURCES when you were creating the GEDCOM file. Open a new database and IMPORT from your RM 4 databae. I think everything will transfer. Allow time for the conversion. It does nothing to your RM 4 database. You can still use both even side by side. Hi Jon I exported my database via a Gedcom from RM4. All the references I had in my database are not in my existing source list, neither are the suggested source list items eg Ancestral file, Free form, Census UK (online) Parish Records etc (the RM list) Do you think something has happened in either the download of the program or the gedcom Lynne Message: 3 Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2012 04:18:03 -0500 From: Jon Czarowitz <czarowitz@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [RMagic] Source lists To: rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <CAAd6FzwLYOw=2ohSTadKBYVWbEr-0wbJ__NkTwiiDVDqEvcN6A@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Where are you bringing the database from and in what method did you bring it? Not that I am aware of. RM5 also directly imports a RM3 database without having to export GEDCOM from 3. Tom On 2012-09-01, at 9:25 AM, Frank La Rosa <flarosa@optonline.net> wrote: > Are there any issues regarding sources going from RM3 to RM5? > > > -----

There was no need to export your database to GEDCOM to bring it over to RM5. RM5 opens RM4 database files directly and modifies them to the RM5 structure automatically. That process is irreversible so it is advisable to plan ahead if you want to keep a RM4 copy safe from upgrade. That said, your RM4 GEDCOM should import successfully to RM5. It sounds like you may not have checked the box to include Sources in the Export GEDCOM dialog. Also, if you have master Sources that are not cited by any person/fact among those exported and other unused items like Places, custom Fact Types, custom Source Templates, they are not exported. Lynne I find no way to copy the list of sources. You can copy the details and paste to a word type listing adding your own name for the source, but not directly into a database.
