Have you gotten a copy of their marriage certificate? They may have changed it themselves, Howeever, I would use the notes under their marriage and your birth notes. Also when you look for their records, include that spelling as a possible link. Other records may have used that spelling too. Using that in marriage notes and your birth note will make it available for each parent as needed. This could be a problem with Windows permissions. Windows 7 doesn't like anything touching the Program Data directories, so stops you creating files in those directories. Have you tried moving the file to another directory and then trying it there? The problem is that RM is trying to restore the file to a folder in which you as a Windows user do not have the needed right to create files. You should never restore to Program Files (x86)\ or it's sub-folders. When you next try restore, you have control over where it is to restore so use the browser to navigate to where you want the file. Moreover, there must be something amiss with your settings for folder options under Tools. Read Help on that. I'm using Rootsmagic 4 and it won't restore my backup file. The backup file is only a month old. The Rootsmagic site says I never created an account there which is not correct, but I don't want to lose the error message. I closed the databases. I am using Windows 7. The error message I received was: Zipforge: Cannot create file "C:\Program Files (x86)\ RootsMagic 4\All Family.rmgc"- Native error: 00019. File processing error, possibly disk is full. The disk is ABSOLUTELY NOT FULL. It's less than half full. What is going wrong and how can I fix it? Thank you. Debbie
Hi all, For some reason I can't wrap my mind around a good way to accomplish what I want... and I have not found anything to help in forums, book or such. It's a simple thing.. on my birth certificate my parents names are given as some "variation" of what they are or what I would call a "source name". Since this ain't their real name I would like to record it as a "source name" and it's not really an alternate name since it was only the way someone recorded it. Can I put this in the notes or the details or where. Anything I try is not what seems right to me and I was wondering how others handle it. Thanks, Rich

I imported from a Gedcom because I didnt want to loose info or access to my RM4. I checked to import everything over. My RM4 has the source notes and default sorce list but not the RM5. I have sent an error report so maybe I will hear back from that. Otherwise I am pleased with RM5 and thank you I have found the On This day list. It will open one, It will restore a RootsMagic 4 backup. But it will not import a version 4 database. If you OPEN a RootsMagic 4 database with RootsMagic 5 it will be converted so that you can nlonger open that file with RootMagic 4. So if you want to use the file in RM4, make a copy to open with RM5 within a new RM5 folder or restore the RM4 backup with RM5 into a different folder than the one in which RM4 database is stored. The only way I can think of where the RM4 sources wouldn't be transferred through a GEDCOM file to RM5 would be if you had unchecked the SOURCES when you were creating the GEDCOM file. "Source Detail Quality" is what I meant by "SDQ". Sorry that was not clear but it hardly matters what it stands for as the clarification was about export and import. Legacy does not 'export' to RootsMagic; rather RootsMagic 'imports' from the Legacy database file. So your question is really, "Is it possible to get RootsMagic to import Source Detail Quality from a Legacy database file?". Likewise, Legacy 'exports' SDQ to GEDCOM and RM5 'imports' SDQ from a Legacy GEDCOM. Well, if you haven't merged anyone yet, you should be able to export a GEDCOM of everyone except that group you just dragged into it. Either mark your tree or mark everyone and unmark the newly imported tree. Of course, if you imported everyone in the database then there may be quite a few trees. Alfred ============== L. L.
