    3. LO 3.6, just downloaded today. But don't take my word for it. Make an FGS or probably any report with indexes and endnotes (don't know about footnotes) and see for yourself. If your findings are different, that's worth knowing about. I'm not optimistic that there is any real alternative to Word - maybe Apple Write or whatever it's called, but that's a whole other ball game. 3. I use MS Word 2010 and have a complete display from the same RTF that Betty gets only the first line. That RTF was generated from her database on my computer from RM 5.0.4.1. There are anomalies between RM Preview and what MS Word displays but no loss of data; my issues are the table format goes a bit wonky and portraits get cut off. Some enthusiasm has been shown here for LibreOffice Writer as an alternative. I reaffirm that it is not. Indexes and hyperlinks from superscripts to end notes are screwed up. 3. You don't change Windows File Associations with RM. You can from Windows Explorer, as I explained earlier today. Right-click on a file of the type you wish to associate with LibreOffice Writer, e.g., RTF and select Open With from the popup menu. Then, "Select default program" and "Browse" to where LibreOffice is installed (typ C:\Program Files (x86)\LibreOffice 3.6) and go open its "program" folder. Then select swriter.exe and click "Open". On the next "Open with" window, you should see the LibreOffice Writer icon already selected; if not, select it. Make sure to check the box "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" and "OK". From that point on, when RM saves RTF and automatically calls Windows to open it, Windows will open it with LO Writer. Now, is this a good thing? Nope! Indexes are screwed up. So LO Writer is not going to be satisfactory to anyone wanting indexes. 1. [RMagic] Problem with place details
    2. Jon Czarowitz
    3. I was checking my cemeteries on people view using place detail as alpha. When I got to the oners in McKinney that should have been Pecan Grove Cemetery, it should 1405 W Louisiana which was a residence address. In checking the edit screen I found that every McKinney burials had that address, not the cemetery. Also the place detail view for all uses of McKinney had the same listing including cemeteries. I made the mistaker of deleting the unwanted details from the death place detail list. It removed the same ones from all place detail lists for that location. If anyone has had the same problem, can you tell when it started. I have gone back many backups and find the same thing. I am using XP with latest updates for RM 5. I can duplicate the problem. It is using the first name in the place detail list. Because of the detail deletion of the cemetery on that one place i have no cemetery for McKinney place detail location and a blank where the cemetery should be on the edit screen and people view. Thanks for your help. -- -- Jon P Czarowitz, NHC, GF, GGF, IGC Hempel Genealogist since 1986 International Genealogist for http://www.clancunninghamintl.org RootsMagic 4 http://www.rootsmagic.com CUNNINGHAMS TOGETHER - CUNNINGHAMS WORLDWIDE!

    3. With MS Vista, I use the Windows Explorer, (or My computer if you want to call it that) and navigate to an RTF file, right click on it and click Properties. In the general section, third line down is : "Open with XXX" and the button for "Change". Click on that and choose the program you want to use to view the RTF files. If it isn't listed, you can Browse through all the Program Files folder to pick what you want. Alfred ================ Betty Stokes wrote: > How do I change the file association with RM? 3. Yes, you have, Ron! The point is that the RTF file saved from a perfectly satisfactory report as seen in the RM Report Viewer does not appear to be complete in some instances of Microsoft Word, which should be the benchmark for RTF compliance since Microsoft invented RTF. 3. Where do you get Libre Office Writer. How does it coexist with Microsoft Word? Betty -----Original Message----- From: rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Tom Holden Sent: Friday, October 05, 2012 1:06 PM To: rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RMagic] Family Group Sheet Betty sent me a database. I created a FGS RTF, PDF and a PDF from the RTF via Word 2010. All were complete. Sent her the RTF and all she sees is one line. She sent it back to me - it's complete so it survived the round trip without error. This seems to be an issue with Word, especially now that we see that LibreOffice Writer handles the RTF okay. 3. No problem generating a pdf. Just can't do it in rtf. I only need it to send to lists where they don't accept anything but text. Family Origins used to do it. My understanding is that people are having problems generating a Family Group Sheet, or am I mistaken? I ask because I find that by clicking on a person in the database, over 6000 people, then clicking on Reports and selecting Family Group Sheet, then clicking on Generate Report, I get a complete F.G.S. on the screen that I can print. 3. Took awhile.but Libreoffice does a gtreat RTF read job. I had been told that maybe MS was going to no longer support RTF files. This is a great free sub for MS.
