After purchasing, downloading and installing RM6, and converting my data, I attempted to set up an account at my.rootsmagic.com to upload my data later. However, when I submitted my desired username and password, I receive a popup window that says "Key not valid for creating user account". What am I doing wrong? Patricia

I just downloaded the free trial Essentials I then bought the electronic upgrade - go to the buy RM6 page I received 2 emails from RM 1st thanked me for order and gave order ID a few seconds later i got the 2nd with the user name and key (which you can copy and paste) which you enter when requested when you next start Essentials. It is same full programme and key unlocks various items you may need. You do not need to download again (keep user name and key safe because if something fails or you change computers you just download RM again and enter name and key ) (well done RMagician) regards and Happy Thanksgiving to you all Richard in UK
I use www.genealogysupplies.com/index.php - for the UK version - as I prefer to get the CD - however there is also a download option. Hi Richard Thanks for the reply (and other private messages). I've looked at the US website too, and as you've confirmed to me privately, it appears you can order from outside the US by selecting "No State". There are a number of options for the UK version, but the Upgrade, which is cheapest, is just the program and nothing else. It's the others which include data discs etc, and not surprisingly, they cost more. I still can't decide which way to go, though. Is there anyone who could explain the differences between the US and UK versions, please - and whether any UK-version defaults are nevertheless still available in the US version? I was able to get the new RM6 today and over all I love it! I'm playing around with the new website generator locally. I really like the new format! I did notice a problem with the images though. In the webinar last night Bruce said that it would show the captions on the photos, but it's not for me. I have both captions and descriptions filled in for most of my photos and none are showing up. I also see that it is loading the images for sources, even though I had only selected primary photos. I think that there needs to be an option to include or exclude source images. For example you might have scans of personal letters attached to sources that you don't want just anyone to read. I would LOVE LOVE it if we could mark individual images as private when adding them to the database. In some cases you might want to show multiple photos for an ancestor but have a few that were given to you and may have been asked not to publish them. Or they could be photos from books that you can't republish, but keep for personal use. You might only have 1 photo of a person and have it set as a primary photo, but can not for what ever reason post it online. So being able to mark it private would also help in that situation. One other idea, Bruce mentioned last night that the Online Publisher automatically resizes the photos to save space. The size seems to look well for photos, but the images of source documents are way to small to read. Perhaps having a way to select what image size you want shown on the website would help with this. It could be as simple as small, med, large. The image resolution could be kept low for screen viewing while increasing the size of the image. This would help keep the file small. Kim
I saw the Webinar on Tuesday night for the new version of Roots Magic. There are definitely new features and fixes. If folks have put off upgrading, I think it is definitely worth the $20 upgrade price. Betty
I think it's considered new since it is Version 6, as opposed to Version 5.something. You can read about the new features at http://blog.rootsmagic.com/ Carol On Wed, Nov 21, 2012 at 5:46 PM, Jon Czarowitz <czarowitz@gmail.com> wrote: > Is this a new program or update? Is this a new program or update? The help keeps telling me I am using the latest version of RM 5 and stops there. Jon, Soon after I ordered the upgrade I received a confirming email with the version 6 key. If you simply downloaded the (free) version, you didn't get a key. I think the free version, new version, and upgrade version are all really the same program, the only difference being the cost (new vs upgrade) and a key (paid versions vs free). -- Charlie Hoffpauir http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~charlieh/ Message board: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.hoffpauir Mail list: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/h/hoffpauir.html DNA project: <http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Hoffpauir>

You are going to have to tell me exactly where this extra space is because I cannot find it. I assumed that you meant in the sentence template, but I don't see it there. No problem Tom. :) I was thinking last night about my concern about missing out in the search results. A temporary solution might be to make a report of the people in my database saved as a text or html file and upload that some where on the site.
