    3. It doesn't look like it matters what aspect ratio the picture has, both horizontal and vertical pictures cover the name. Looks like there wasn't any room or location for the picture to be inserted. Bill -----Original Message----- From: rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Tom Holden Sent: Friday, November 30, 2012 2:26 PM To: rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RMagic] Pictures on Website Is the image wider than it is tall? In an early release, it used a fixed aspect ratio which distorted all thumbnails with a different ratio. That was fixed but maybe no limit has been placed on the horizontal dimension, only the vertical, with the result that wide aspect ratio images overprint the name. 1. [RMagic] Questions about RM's new Publish Online feature
    2. Charlie Hoffpauir
    3. I really REALLY like the new feature in version 6, publish online. I playing around with it I've found that it produces exactly what I've been wanting to find for several years, the means to put a browse-able copy of my family data on a CD. I generate the on-line data (which is first stored on my computer) then instead of sending it to a web site, I simply copy the files to a CD. (We've been generating the family CD for family members at the annual reunion for over 10 years now.... and this feature should prove to be a nice addition.) However, as nice as it is, it "seems" that it should be easy to make this run on Android tablets and phones. For the CD to run the application, it's only necessary for the user to open his/her browser and double click the "index.html" file that RM creates. I can easily accomplish this on the menu that I put on our CD. It seem to me that it should also be possible to run this ap on a smart phone or tablet. But I can't figure out how. So my post is really to ask for anyone with more technical knowledge for help. Am I expecting too much, or is this something that might be fairly easy to implement? Now I know that I can simply upload the data to a web site, and have the phone or tablet users access the data that way.... and it might be that's what I'll have to do. However, the family association sells the CD's to raise money for charity purposes (we're non-profit), so we'd prefer not to simply give this data away to everyone. -- Charlie Hoffpauir http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~charlieh/ Message board: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.hoffpauir Mail list: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/h/hoffpauir.html DNA project: <http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Hoffpauir>

    3. My instinct would put it in the place it was at the time. If you have version 5 or 6 you can use CountyCheck to investigate when and if the boundaries changed. Of course that may well mean that you end up with the same town in different counties and in your case maybe different states. Yes, that's exactly the way it's supposed to work. Let's suppose at this point you were to add a new burial in Nacogdoches Co., Texas. Start to type the Place Name for the new burial into the system as N-a-c-o-g.... etc. When Nacogdoces Co., Texas appears as an item in the dropdown list, select it. At that moment, you will not have a cemetery name just yet. So click the green road sign icon at the right end of the Place Details field, and you will get a list of your five cemeteries. Pick the one you want, and you are done. I do think the Place Details workflow is a little awkward at this point if the item you want is not already in the Place Details list, for example if you need to add a sixth cemetery name. That's because you can't enter a new Place Details name from the Place Details sub-window. So you will have to click Cancel and enter the new cemetery name in the Place Details sub-window for the burial fact. As an alternative workflow that may feel a little more natural, after choosing Nacogdoces Co., Texas as the place, don't click the green road sign icon at the right end of the Place Details list. Instead, just go ahead and start typing your cemetery name into the Place Details field of the sub-window for the burial fact. If the cemetery you are trying to enter is already in the system for Nacogdoces Co., Texas, then it will quickly appear in a new dropdown list and you can select it. If not, you just go ahead and complete the typing of the new cemetery name. Jerry

    3. If you click on "Nacogdoches Co., Texas" in the Place list, it makes no difference which place detail you highlight before you do the print. Print is for the whole place and if you have the check mark before "Print place details" they and what happened there will be printed at the bottom of the listing after all the items in that place which have no place details. 3. No. What happened was that I had the Country name and the cemetery name. Then I split the cemetery name off and put it in the details. This ended up producing the cemetery name and the county name. Good so far. There were a good many cemeteries in the country where I had people. I ended up with several Nacogdoches Co., Texas place names. I couldn't see the detail in the place name index. Not thinking, I merged all those Nacogdoches names. I was unhappy when I found that my one Nacogdoches Co., Texas place had 5 cemeteries in the details section. The Original cemeteries are in the right place in the person's page.
