Under the Internet menu you have several choices two of which are "Publish Online" which is the new one and "Create HTML files" which is the old standby with which you can upload to your web site wherever it is. SO, you can go either way, or both. Alfred =========== LB wrote: > Thanks Tom, > > Explanations for #1 & #3. > > In #2 - Your answer generates another questions or, perhaps I am > confused. 1. Yes. You qualify for the upgrade price and can import your RM3 database directly into RM6. Your RM3 database remains intact while a new RM6 database gets created from its data. 2. You can upload the files created by Publish Online to your own hosting service but not from within RM6. Yes, there are XML files that bear the RM6 RIN for the person so revised files will have the same names. 3. The older one generates static HTML files. Thanks Tom, Explanations for #1 & #3. In #2 - Your answer generates another questions or, perhaps I am confused. Are you saying the Online Publish feature only works with Myrootmagic.com? And that I can not direct it to my domain? If so, WHY? My domain is PHP5, MYSql capability. I don't mind sending it to myrootmagic.com, but I want it primarily on my website with my other stuff. I went to sis-in-laws computer (Windows 7, IE9) and it all looks perfect. So there has to be something going on in Windows XP, IE8 (my copy at least) that prevents the body of these pages from loading. Regarding the scroll right: I changed my zoom level on the pages and they fit just fine but I've never had to do that before. The pages are usually adjusted to my zoom level keeping everything within the page and not needing any scrolling. Index and Pedigree load except for the data in the center. Requires scrolling to the right also. I don't know if I'm missing something in my browser IE8 or Op Windows XP. I double checked Javascript and the Plug In I had was version 6 so I unstalled and installed the latest but nothing changed. I am trying to load the online versions, not any pc versions. Any suggestions. > Sincerely, > Mike

I hadn't downloaded RM6 yet, but it is on my Dec "TO DO" List. Meanwhile, I am preparing for a major update of my own genealogy and publishing. Question 1: Can I upgrade directly from RM3 to RM6? Or should I step RM3 to RM4, then to RM6? (I never did upgrade to RM5, had too many frustrations with RM4, so never put my personal genealogy on it). Question 2: Pertains to the new "Online Publishing" feature of RM6. I have my own domain. I want to be able to update the data posted online with the newer data as developed? In otherwords - if the ID#'s match the ID#'s in the file already uploaded, the new file will overwrite old data with the new data. Question 3: How does "Online Publishing" differ from prior RM's "Create A Website"? Lynn B.
Thanks Alfred, I now have the toolbar icons back, but it an the orders File, Edit, Exit etc are still going down the left side of the screen instead of across the top. Any suggestions. I think I dragged something which caused that, but it was accidental. Nancy
Nancy. At the top of the toolbar, several dots ...... Put you cursor on that and drag to the location you want, CRB
Try this: Click and hold on the toolbar and drag it to where you want it Aloha Wayne, NH6K -----Original Message----- From: rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Nancy Fischer Sent: Saturday, December 01, 2012 9:17 AM To: ROOTSMAGIC-USERS@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RMagic] Toolbar problem Thanks Alfred, I now have the toolbar icons back, but it an the orders File, Edit, Exit etc are still going down the left side of the screen instead of across the top. I think the need to scroll right is a minor error in settings for the main area that failed to account for the width taken up by the menu side tab. I see that on other browsers although the home page displays fully on Safari on my iPad. I just had a look at the sample website with IE8 on a Win XP notebook; I don't see any data missing from the middle. The home page is way larger than the screen. I do notice a variance in the behaviour of the two pedigree chart links. The sidebar one goes back to the last viewed while the home page one goes to the root person. I have only published mine locally, but I have the same problem. Also, some of the index pages are blank. This seems to happen only to the second page when a letter of the alphabet has enough names that it needs to be split. I have no idea how I managed this, but all of the icons on my toolbar are now missing. I tried going to toolbars>customize>reset, but when I clicked whatever it said besides “cancel” nothing happened. Also all of the words File, exit, search etc are listed down the left side of the screen. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Closing and reopening the program with out saving did not help. Is the image wider than it is tall? In an early release, it used a fixed aspect ratio which distorted all thumbnails with a different ratio. That was fixed but maybe no limit has been placed on the horizontal dimension, only the vertical, with the result that wide aspect ratio images overprint the name.
