    3. I think I get it now Thanks a lot In my "Genealogy" folder, I have some 50 or 60 files with the "Primary name" and multiple extensions They must be files stretching back for years from the 4 or 5 previous versions of Bruce's programs that I have used I will now sort them by date, and move all the old ones into another temporary folder And see if RM6 still works (which it should) (I had not realized that RM4 replaced all those separate files with a single .rmgc file) Thanks again for all the help And the RM app seems to work fine Frost Prioleau On Tue, Dec 18, 2012 at 4:59 AM, Tom Holden <ve3meo@gmail.com> wrote: > Those other files having the same primary name but different extensions > are from RootsMagic 3 or earlier. The file probably doesn't end up with no extension; it's just that Windows, in an attempt to be 'helpful', doesn't show extensions for which it has associated an application. > The file shows on Dropbox, > but I have been unable to open it If you've just renamed the backup file, I'm not surprised. -- Regards Dave

    3. Those other files having the same primary name but different extensions are from RootsMagic 3 or earlier. RM4 replaced them with the single .rmgc file. Your Windows is set to hide the extensions of file types associated with an application. 3. Using Win7, you could type the filename with extension, e.g., myfamily.rmgc, into the "Search programs and files" box adjacent to the Start button. It should find it after a while in Windows Explorer; hopefully you do not have two or more with the same name. Alternatively, you can click on Start > Computer to open Windows Explorer and starting with the drive letter you saw at the top of the RM window, follow the full path to the folder where the .rmgc file is stored and browse that folder to select the file. Ctrl-C to copy the file, find your Dropbox folder using Win Explorer, and paste the file into it (select and Ctrl-V). Or use right-click functionality to Copy and Paste. 3. The database file that RM opens and works on as does the RM app is the one with the .rmgc extension. The .rmgb backup file is a compressed ZIP file containing the .rmgc file; the RM app cannot unZIP it. So find your database file, not your backup file, and place it in DropBox or on your RM app in iTunes. there is nothing wrong with your install. 3. Thanks I'm still not getting it How can you drag the operating file to Dropbox? It is fractured into multiple files Do we not drag over the single Backup file? It seems it should be a *.rmgc file But it turns out to be a *.rmgb file When I change the b to a c, the file ends up with no extension The file shows on Dropbox, but I have been unable to open it Frost On Mon, Dec 17, 2012 at 6:33 PM, Drew Smith <drewsmithtpa@gmail.com> wrote: > Your RM6 normally saves its file as an .rmgc file. > > That's the file you open with the iOS app. > > It's not a backup file. > > Drew > > On Mon, Dec 17, 2012 at 9:12 PM, Horry Frost Prioleau > <hfrost@prioleau.com> wrote: > > I am having a problem installing the RM App on my iPhone > > Dropbox says I have an invalid file > > My backup file ends in .rmgb > > "Supported files need to have the .rmgc extension" > > How do I back up my files in RM6 with .rmgc? > > > =================================== > RM list Archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/ROOTSMAGIC-USERS/ > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search?path=ROOTSMAGIC-USERS > WISH LIST: http://www.rootsmagic.com/forums/ BLOG: > http://blog.rootsmagic.com/ > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > ROOTSMAGIC-USERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > -- H. 2. Charlie Hoffpauir
    3. Some time ago I mentioned on the list that RM6 had not yet managed to correct the problem I was having with displaying, or showing in a list, a large number of descendants. Well, I'm very happy to state that the latest update, 6.0.0.3, has corrected that problem! Incidentally,in case anyone is interested, the database I'm working with has 41,437 individuals and their spouses (25,253 direct) as descendants of my ancestor, Thomas Hoffpauir. -- Charlie Hoffpauir http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~charlieh/ Message board: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.hoffpauir Mail list: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/h/hoffpauir.html DNA project: <http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Hoffpauir>

    1. Re: [RMagic] RM6 Publish Online
    2. Tom Holden
    3. Publisher is the tool for creating a book. Publish Online is the tool for creating and uploading a website so I changed the subject heading. You choose in the Publish Online settings whether to upload a GEDCOM to the website. If you do, then your website will have a link to download the GEDCOM. If you don't choose that setting, no GEDCOM and no link.
