    2. Teresa Elliott
    3. Tom, I understand that, however, that is not the way that I work. I prefer the will or deed (or head of household) to be the source. To me, the microfilm (or will book) is not the source, the deed or will is. I was hoping someone could offer a suggestion for a way to do something similar in Rootsmagic. Entering the deed book information over and over again is redundant. Computers are supposed to do the work for us. And making the deed book the source doesn't work for me either. Currently I have 3500 sources that would need to be edited. If I changed to what you are suggesting, they'd not only have to be edited, but merged with other sources and the cleanup would be a nightmare. -----Original Message----- From: rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Tom Holden Sent: Wednesday, December 19, 2012 7:57 PM To: rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RMagic] Repository questions If you make the microfilm the Master Source, then you enter it's details and the repository just the once for all 200 citations of it. 1. [RMagic] Repository questions
    2. Teresa Elliott
    3. In my old software, I used the repository for microfilm information, because I only had to type in the information for a roll one time. But obviously the predefined fields in Rootsmagic aren't large enough to hold this information. I'd love a field where I could link a microfilm roll to a source and have that print with the source, so I only had to enter this information one time, since I tend to use the same microfilm over and over for different sources. This also allowed me to attach research tasks to the roll of microfilm. So here's my questions: Does the repository information print as part of the source output. My GEDCOM put all the sources into a free form source template, and I can't figure out how to edit those to another source type, other than creating a new source and then merging the sources. If the repository information does print, does the repository note print as part of the source output? I can continue to do what I am doing now, if I just move the microfilm information into the note section of the repository, if that prints. I am thinking I could just move my current text to the repository note field and then just have [repository note] print where the repository text should be. Note: I only use footnotes, never Bibliography so this would work for me if the repository note prints. Where is the best place to enter the information about the microfilm roll? Preferably so that I don't have to type it over and over again. My family is all from the same small area, so it's not unusual for me to find 5 or more ancestors in the same will book or deed book.

    3. Maybe you are doing nothing wrong. I put a 220 MB file through Dropbox in the beta test. I wonder if the message is wrong and that the problem is a corruption in your database. Try running through the Database Tools: Integrity, Rebuild Indexes, Integrity (ok?), Clean, Compact then put your file up on Dropbox. 3. Thanks, Tom. I ran the tools as you suggested in the order you suggested. It checked out with integrity ok. While I was doing that, my attention was diverted from the iPad and what it was doing (having last received an error message). After seeing everything okay, I copied the database to overwrite the one in Dropbox on my desktop. The unattended RM was still open on the iPad and the RM APP on my iPad had opened the database file. I closed the app and reopened it. RM said the file had been changed and did I want to resync it. I said yes. New problem now. Now I get a different error message: "Error in Loading Files. The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error - 1001). {"/var.mobile/Applications/FC2B6382-9B0C-4FF6-B50E-D05DB6007CA5/Documents/6_Master8.rmgc"; path = "6_Master8.rmgc";} " ???? What's going on with that? Okay, then when I closed and opened again, it asked me again if I wanted to sync. I said yes and this time it completed the sync process with no problem at all. So, I think everything is good now. A general question though: Is the file that opens on the iPad the same one that's still IN the Dropbox? Or did Dropbox download a COPY to my iPad and that is the file I'm opening? Will the APP only work if I'm within WI-FI access so it can access my dropbox files? 3. I'm having a problem getting the app to open and download the data to my iPad. App installed okay. I already had Dropbox installed. For the longest time and many trys, when I opened the app and selected the Dropbox tab, nothing would happen. The instruction menu would remain on the screen. I finally copied my RM6 database file into the correct APPS > RootsMagic folder in Dropbox. The app would finally recognize the database (67,332 kb). When I select it, the app tells me to stay on the page until the download is complete. Then it tries a long time to download it. Every time, I finally get an error message that says to check my Internet connection. But my internet connection is fine. I've tried numerous times, but always wind up with the same error message. Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong? Thanks, Patricia

    3. Use the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) to end the program or Shutdown/Restart Windows. When you have the database reopened, use the File > Database Tools tools to Check Integrity, Rebuild Indexes, Check Integrity; then if integrity OK, Clean and Compact, in that order. If integrity is OK at the outset, then it's unlikely the error caused any corruption of the database or was caused by corruption and you are safe to proceed to use it. But there is no harm and it will possibly do some good to go through the rest of the tools.
