The not a problem list is stored in the database, so you will never lose that. Your spell check dictionary can be copied from the older version to the newer one like this: http://support.rootsmagic.com/entries/20752128-How-do-I-move-my-Dictionary-from-RM4-to-RM5- You can ignore the RM4 to RM5 stuff... it's the same for any of the versions 4 and later. - Bruce On Thu, Jan 22, 2015 at 3:27 PM, MScheffler via < [email protected]> wrote: > Is there a way to upgrade from RM6 to 7 in such a way that I do NOT > lose > my spell dictionary and my "not a problem " lists? Can anyone out there kindly send me a link for his/her shiny new webpage on the My RootsMagic sites that now come with RM7 please? I've just created the new account and am very seriously thinking about putting a new page on it, but would like to take a look at one in place before taking up some of Bruce's server space. Thanks. On a side but related note, what is the difference in a few words between the "Pre-RootsMagic 6" option and the "RootsMagic 6" option in creating a webpage with RM7? RM7 is the 15th version (including the old FO) I have used, but the website I created with RM6 and uploaded myself can now only be created using RM7's "PRE-RootsMagic 6" option. I've finally figured this out, but not without some confusion because I do not recall any RM6 webpage that was any different that one from RM5, but am I missing something? I understand now that the so-called RM6 version is not HTML but something else, so after creating one I deleted it until I learn something about it, but I cannot believe that I missed this option entirely for the couple of years that I used version 6 if such is the case. I would appreciate hearing from someone who can explain it to me. I was fortunate to have exchanged a couple of emails on the subject with Bruce not long ago, and I think I left him a little peeved with me trying to explain this, so if anyone replies please don't assume that I know anything on this specific feature because I clearly and obviously do not. :-( David E. Thanks for the replies from Tom, Dora, and Ted. Last night I looked at the webinar about using RootsMagic with FamilySearch Family Tree and realized that it doesn't matter about privatizing my new fact. Ted is right. Although the new fact shows up on the FamilySearch side when I'm doing a match, nobody will see it but me and it won't be copied to FamilySearch unless I choose to copy it. I was just trying to get a cleaner interface so it wouldn't show on the FamilySearch Family Tree side but it's really moot. You are simply creating a link in your own database showing who the matching person is in FamilySearch. If you do not find a match in FamilySearch, then you have an option of transferring data on your person to FamilySearch by clicking an "Add to Family Search" button in the "Find Matches" tab. This adds the basic BMDB data, but not other facts. To add other facts, you have to click on the Share Data tab and manually compare them and add what facts you want. If you find a match to a person already in FamilySearch, you can then click on the "Share Data" tab, and compare the information you have with what is is FamilySearch; you can manually add what facts you want to to FamilySearch. There is no option to exclude a fact type or any specific fact from being displayed in the FamilySearch Person Tools display under My RootsMagic Person. Nor is there any distinguishing characteristic in this display for facts marked Private. To exclude a fact type from FamilySearch Person Tools would require an additional option in the Edit Fact Type dialog window - a checkbox for "Include in FamilySearch Person Tools". You may want to post this to the Wish List. Laurie, who sees it when you match a person on FamilySearch Family Tree? Just you, or other people? Is it that you're uploading the tree with the private fact that you don't want anyone to see to FamilySearch? While I don't know specifically about privatizing facts, I've found that when privatizing people, if you don't privatize them three different times, three different ways, they display in an Ancestry tree. First you have to mark them "living". Then when exporting the GEDCOM to upload to Ancestry, you have to check privatize living people. But if you don't go further they'll still show up. You ADDITIONALLY have to check both boxes telling it not to display certain information ABOUT the living people, such as, like, their names and birthdates - like you know, the people, who you've already privatized, twice. (While I can dimly understand a possible distinction between setting people as living and privatizing them, if there's any other reason to mark them as living, I've no clue why you would need to specifically mark not to display the names and birth dates of the people you've already said to treat as private.) Perhaps it is similar with private facts? Well, since this seems to be 'back on the list', I'll provide an update! Actually it's going very well. We have been 'assigning' a webinar or two to watch during the month until the next meeting. Then, at the meeting, we bring the webinar up to watch and go to the areas where people have questions .... which leads to great discussions and demonstrations of other ideas along the lines. This past meeting (January) we discussed some stuff from the 'files & folders' webinar but then went to the 'online publishing' part in 'What's new in RM Version 7' as that was the second part of the 'assignment'! That was a very lively discussion and those present (was a snowy day) gained a lot of knowledge and were very excited. Looks like we'll keep this format, at least for a while, by popular demand! Assigning two webinars to watch, track questions from the webinars, review at the meeting and provide support, encouragement and enthusiasm !!! Hi all, At our Washington DC ([email protected]) user group we usually go through a new feature or how other programs (Family Search/Heritage/Ancestory) can work with RM with the advanced users demonstrating for 30 to45 minutes. When I run our RM Users Group Meetings, I will assign a Webinar on a common RM topic or feature, and ask the members to view it before the meeting, so we discuss the topic and answer questions at the meeting. Unfortunately many members do not view the Webinar before the meeting. My problem is the webinars are You Tube, and the Family History Center has firewalled You Tube, so I am unable to present the video to the group. Does anyone have a fairly simple resolution as to how I can present a RootsMagic You Tube video at our meetings. Is there another source? Lynn B. I am very interested to do the same thing at my local library so would be interested in how things go. Pleas keep the list updated or you can reply off line to [email protected] I would suggest that you find out from everyone where they are in there knowledge of RM and then let those who are further along instruct those who are not until you bring everyone to the same level. After you watch a seminar let everyone chime in on what they didn't understand. I find that sometimes I will miss something and that keeps me from getting to the conclusion. I wish you much success and a wonderful time together Em Roanoke, VA. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jon Czarowitz via Sent: Friday, January 16, 2015 3:01 PM To: Pat McGrath; rootsmagic-users Subject: Re: [RMagic] New Users Group and Webinars On Tue, Nov 18, 2014 at 12:17 PM, Pat McGrath via < [email protected]> wrote: > Hi Folks: > > > > Our central Massachusetts area has started a new 'RM Users Group' > meeting monthly.
