Looks like it might not be TOO DIFFICULT but I was wondering if there are any of you out there that would be willing to 'share' customized sentences that you have created (templates) to make the process easier. Greatly appreciate ALL the help this list has been providing as well as any in this area. For right now I'm back to cleaning up my resource list, now that I have located all the citations I thought I had lost!!! Pat

    3. That means you have no e-mail client installed on your computer. Probably you are reading gmail in a web browser. You can however install an e-mail client on your computer and have your gmail download to it. https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/1668960?hl=en Dora -----Original Message----- From: Margaret P. 1. Re: [RMagic] Add email program to Rootsmagic
    2. Jerry Bryan via
    3. This is a Windows issue, not an RM issue. The problem is that when a program running on Windows tells Windows that it needs to send an email, there has to be an email client installed on the local computer. The way most people use gmail, there is not an email client installed on the local computer. Rather, gmail is used as a browser based application. Therefore, no windows program (including RM) is able to send email using gmail. The solution is to install an email client. The most common email client to install is probably the Windows Live Mail client (a free download from Microsoft), but there are lots more email clients that could be used. Microsoft really intends that you use the Windows Live Mail client with their Windows Live Mail service (what used to be called Hotmail). But the same client can also be used with gmail and lots of other email services. To make it work, you have to download the client and do a bit of "techie" kinds of things to configure it - tell it which email service you want to connect to such as gmail, tell it your username and password, etc. I have used the Windows Live Mail client for years with my Hotmail account, and I have been very satisfied with the results. I also have a gmail account that I don't use very much. I have connected the Windows Live Mail to gmail, and it also works very well. To tell you the truth, I sometimes wish that software packages such as RM wouldn't be so quick to provide email interfaces. I know that this sounds like an extremely unfriendly approach. But users constantly get trapped into thinking that the interface between their software package and email is going to "just work". But it doesn't "just work", and users then blame their software package. But the problem isn't their software package at all. It's the fact that they are using a browser for email instead of an email client for email. Jerry -----Original Message----- From: Margaret P. 3. Under Apps on GMAIL there is a GMAIL OFFLINE. It must be used with Chrome Browser. I keep a tab open on my Browser with Gmail on it. When I want to send anything I copy and paste it into a new email to the person. It is in the body of the email that way. I have not used GMAIL OFFLINE as yet since I don't use Chrome. I put it on here as a choice. When you use the print on RM, it asks if you want to view it first. You also have the choice of location. If NOT sending to a LIST you can send this as an attachment in your email. Sharing with family is one of RMs both features and needs. Using a CD/DVD you can send whatever you want of your database. You can share by using a password protected webpage. Very simple to use in RM 7 and free. These are some of the choices for RM and email. CD"s and DVD's can't be sent email of course. 3. I suspect the citations are still there. Try this: edit the source template that you used for the new master source into which you merged some Free Form source(s) by adding a field named "footnote" to the template definition. Leave it as a Master Source field. Now edit one of the merged sources. This field should now show up in the Edit Source screen with the value from the old Free Form Footnote field. That just shows that the data is still in the database but it is not being brought out. If you get this far, then there are some further edits you can do. Unfortunately, if you used a built-in source template, you cannot edit it so you won't be able to follow this suggestion. 3. Well, must admit how dumb I am !!!! Just figured out how I shot myself in the foot! On the report screen I had unchecked the CITATION box because earlier I had wanted a list of all the sources without that detail and had NOT TURNED CITATION DETAILS back on ....... ..... must be brain frozen with all the snow over the past 30 days in central Mass!!!!! At least it was a major brain cramp and I don't have to had lost 8-10 hours of work on my database!!!! ..... YES, go ahead and laugh!!! Thanks folks! 3. I just tried adding a NEW fact to someone and selecting a source to SEE if that would show up on a report .... it did not. Since I didn't want to leave it there (it was a test only), I highlighted the source on the screen to delete it .... just READ the actual wording on the screen that popped up .... "do you want to remove this citation? Source will remain ...." Is that what I inadvertently have done .... deleted every single 'citation' in my database in an attempt to clean up sources? Sources are getting more unpopular with me by the second!
