    3. I suggest you wait until the last minute to copy your database to Ipad. Then you won't be making to your main database and the Ipad copy will be current. Using a notepad type you can copy any data you receive on the trip and wait to add it to your main database. This way you will know what you already have and what is still missing. Have a good trip. 3. I don't tend to look at them by clicking on the checkmark. I got into the habit of clicking the source button on the bottom right of the edit person screen instead. Guess it really is the same 'list of sources' but they are seen completely there. Tom, I agree, going through and memorize/cut/paste all of them would WORK, but that is exactly what that would be A LOT OF WORK! It's not that critical and that method would certainly create opportunities for me to create an entirely new problem!!!! The other thing I do miss from TMG was the ability to 'rank' as source best, very good, good, fair, poor by selecting a number. Haven't done it yet, but am thinking about putting something into my source or source title to force that ability such as TITLE OF EXCELLENT SOURCE [1] because it's the highest ranked source or a TITLE OF POOR SOURCE [5] because although I took the data it's not what I'd call a good or even very good source and I want to continue to search for a better source! I have so many different areas where I'm trying to 'clean up' my data this may take a back seat! Thanks for all your input!!!! Never know if I can't do something or just have not yet figured out how! 3. Afterthought... say you have two sources for a fact and you want to change the order. Try this. Using the Citation Manager for a fact, Memorize the first source and then Paste it to create a copy of the citation at the bottom of the list. Delete the first. You will see that the order has been swapped. With three or more sources, it will take more thought as you cycle through Memorize, Paste, Delete in descending order of importance. It is indirect, cumbersome and awkward but the only way currently available to change the order. 3. Quick question! In TMG when I had multiple sources for a given fact type, I was able to change the order in which they appeared by moving them up or down in the list . usually putting the one I thought was the most reliable source at the top of the list and the least reliable source at the bottom of the list. In RootsMagic, it appears that a new source is just added to the end of whatever sources are already showing, not sorted alphabetically or in any particular order as far as I can tell. I do see any way that I can reorganize the list, such as in a list of children one could either drag/drop to a different order or sort by date. Does one exist and I have just missed it or does it actually NOT exist and they just go to the end of the line? Pat

Here in South Africa such a contract is usually an Ante-Nuptial Contract, and very rarely a Post-Nuptial Contract, so where I have it and not the actual marriage date I put an Abt date for the marriage, as the marriage usually took place within the next couple of months. If there are children, the likelihoodf that the marriage did not take place is fairly remote. If it is a Post-Nuptial contract, obviously the marriage must have taken place, even if you don't know the date, but it could be quite a long time before the contract date. > > Then, one of the responses mentioned that marriage banns didn't necessarily > result in a marriage, and that might be the same case with a marriage contract > --- can be cancelled or annulled --- so absolutely correct that it is possible > for a marriage NOT to have taken place. -- Keep well, Steve Hayes Blog: http://hayesgreene.wordpress.com Web: http://www.khanya.org.za/famhist1.htm E-mail: [email protected]

    3. You can print a list with all the Place Details. Go to: Lists|Place Lists|Print|Print all places in database with the box opposite Print place details checked|Generate Report That will generate a list of all the Places with the Place Details indented so you can easily see them. You can then easily see if there are dups by scrolling through the list. Alternately, you can also save the list as a text file, open it in a text handling program like Notebook, copy the text and paste the information in a spreadsheet. The Place Details will go in the second column. You can then easily scroll down to each Place Detail. __________________________________________________ > Message: 2 > Date: Sun, 1 Mar 2015 19:00:25 -0800 > From: Betty Briggs <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [RMagic] Duplicated "place detail" names > To: "David E. 2. Greg LeBaron via
    3. Yes -- there is a place for media items and notes for places and place details -- go to: Lists|Place List you can then select a place by clicking on it which will open an edit window. At the bottom of the edit window, you can click on the icon to add notes or media. For adding notes or media to place details, in the Place List, select a place with Place Details. You will see a Place Details section of the window at the bottom right with a Notes and a Media icon at the top just like for people. You can add notes and media there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Message: 1 > Date: Thu, 5 Mar 2015 00:30:56 -0500 > From: "Richard W. 3. Thanks for the feedback! After I sent my message I did do an 'Abt xxxx' with the same year as the 'marriage contract' ---- document drawn up by a notary found a LOT in French Canadian marriages/records ---- so something would show in the field and give me a 'vague idea' when they might have gotten married. Then, one of the responses mentioned that marriage banns didn't necessarily result in a marriage, and that might be the same case with a marriage contract --- can be cancelled or annulled --- so absolutely correct that it is possible for a marriage NOT to have taken place. By using the 'Abt' or 'by' (something) at least I'd know that around that timeframe a marriage might have taken place when I'm searching records or trying to have a timeframe for births, etc. Thanks again! Pat -----Original Message----- From: MScheffler [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, March 05, 2015 5:05 PM To: Pat McGrath; [email protected] Subject: Re: [RMagic] Fact type 'replacement' Hi Pat, If I only have the marriage intention date, I use that either with "abt" in front of the date or perhaps that intention date with "aft" before the intention date in the marriage field. Then I may put the intention or contract date in the marriage note. In general I use a lot of estimated dates when I do not have actual dates for birth & marriage fields. That helps keep one from mixing up generations, as one finds frequently when they query the LDS FamilySearch through Rootsmatic for clues. Something that you did not ask, but by accident I find that Bruce has included "by" as a modifier we can now use for estimated dates. I used to be frustrated when transcribing from books that I had to use "bef" when the book had "by". There is one downside to using estimated dates at time of data entry. RM will not necessarily pick up a duplicate that it might have caught, had I not used estimated dates. That is a choice I frequently make in entering new data. -----Original Message----- From: Pat McGrath via Hi: IF I don't have a birth day but do have a baptism/christening date, the fact type CHRISTEN will print on reports in the birth field. Similarly if I do not have a death date the BURIAL will print on those same reports. BUT, if I don't have a MARRIAGE, but I DO HAVE a 'marriage contract' date ... THAT does not appear at least on the screens for the family . IS there a 'replacement' fact type that would print / show in this case???
