Em, My first thought was that you might have more than one database and used one to create the report, but now are looking at a different database. If you do not know if you have more than one file, close out the one you are currently using, then go to File Open Recent It will then show all the RM database files that you have. If you only have the one, you may have to use a backup file and restore to a previous date. Put the flash drive in your desktop computer Click File at the top left of the RM screen Click Backup (check media files if you want any included; otherwise leave the box unchecked) Click browse and choose the letter of your flash drive, it is "G" on mine but it can be any of several letters Chose select/open on that box Then go to the dialog box on the main screen, click backup. Bruce, I just went thru a similar problem this weekend. We have cousins going to Germany in three weeks and I wanted to send Shareable CD's with them to our German family with all of the information on their families and ancestors. I successfully exported all persons with part of the place of birth as "Germany" into a new database. This separated them from the huge American family. Then I was left with how to delete my husband's mothers family from the new database. They are also all German! I was able to go thru and delete many single family units. But, I was left with many separate individuals. Thankfully, I know the family good enough to go thru the whole index of names and delete one by one all the remaining members of his mom's family. I did not have time to e-mail the list to ask for other suggestions so I just plugged along. Then, I successfully made 10 Shareable CD's for the family of their German family history. Most of the younger people that will be using the CD can also speak a certain amount of English. So, I also sent along some basic directions. I love the CD option!!! It replaced me trying to put together a huge PDF book! Sometimes there is just no easy route to getting to where you want to go! Example: none of our German church books are on the internet so it meant sitting in an LDS Family History Center day after day going thru microfilms of records written in old German script handwriting. No simple way to do this either! Joanne
EM..Make backup with media box checked.. Then move it to laptop. Download and install RM entering the reg code. Open new database and restore your backup including media. Both are matched now. Using RM TO GO is. Not for Syncing compu TV ewers where both have RM installed. Using a backup works better. I would think that you could export a GEDCOM excluding those that are the descendants of a specific person. Then import the GEDCOM to a new database. I think if you export with everything selected then you shouldn't lose any data in the transfer. If you do it this way you will always have the original database to check with. Just my two-pennies worth. David HB On 14 February 2016 at 04:36, Jerry Bryan via <rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com > wrote: > There is no easy way to do this in RM. It is much wished for. There is no easy way to do this in RM. It is much wished for. RM has stated that they will not implement this feature for fear that a user will do a bulk delete by accident, thereby deleting a great deal of research, and that the user will not have a backup. Jerry Hi, I have several files on a particular surname, and I want to move one person and all his descendants from one file to the other. I have successfully moved them all by the drag and drop method, so they are now where I want them to be. But when I try to delete them from the previous file, I can do that only one family at a time. That's a big chore for a large family. I can mark them and put them into a named group, but I can't find a way to delete the persons in that group as a whole. This was easy in FTM. Is there an easy way in RM7? I'm a new user, with a book, but there's no help there.
Just download the program from the website to the laptop, and when you are asked for the registration number, type in your name and number exactly as it is on your desktop one. To transfer the files I would "backup" the database on the desktop to a flash drive. Then turn to the laptop, put in your flash drive, and click on the file you wish to restore. After that click open or save and "restore" the file on the flash drive to the laptop. You can export a subset of your database. Mark everyone and then unmark using the same criteria as you did creating the named group. Alternatively, because RootsMagic has no bulk delete feature, you could try the old SQLite script available at http://sqlitetoolsforrootsmagic.wikispaces.com/Delete+Many . I wrote it for RM5 but it should work on a 7 database.
