All that is required is that later generations intermarry cousins. Pat said "direct line ancestor", not direct female or mtDNA ancestor. There are literally thousands of cousin marriages in Acadian lines.... in fact, it it thought that nearly ALL Acadian marriages are to cousins. My wife and I have some Acadian ancestors, and sure enough, we find we are 6th cousins. -- Charlie Hoffpauir http://my.rootsmagic.com/CRHoffpauir/ http://sites.rootsmagic.com/CharlieHoffpauir/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~charlieh/ http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Hoffpauir
Hello, I have uploaded a gedcom to export and didn't get a box to check private or public. And I didn't get to read the agreement before I have to check that I agree with it. What did I do wrong? Em
When you click on Export under File, a window called GEDCOM EXPORT opens. On it are all the people, data and privacy settings. Once you determine those options you click "ok." Is this the process to which you are referring? Pat At that point you have 2 separate trees. The child of each can have only on e Mother, even though the Father is the same. You can be descended from only one of these Mothers. If you are matching the tree up (linking it) with your DNA results you will want the entire tree there so that others who match your DNA can find where in your tree they connect with you. Three ways I might do it: a) Colour-code them Colour-coding may be problematic if you use colours for other purposes (I use it for grouping descendants/ancestors, for example) b) Add them to a group created for the purpose The Group may get unwieldy if you have more than a few dozen individuals in it. c) Create a new fact to go on each -- Regards Dave
You could use the Reference Number fact type for that purpose and set the option for the number to display after the name to Reference Number. If you already use that fact, perhaps you could add a prefix or suffix to flag them. Joy, this isn't the case. When I hover over open recent the box is blank. I don't remember making another one or ever tried to make one. My only other place to check is if I did the work on a flash drive and made the printout from it, but don't remember doing anything like that as I usually do the computer first and then the back up. Em, My first thought was that you might have more than one database and used one to create the report, but now are looking at a different database. If you do not know if you have more than one file, close out the one you are currently using, then go to File Open Recent It will then show all the RM database files that you have. If you only have the one, you may have to use a backup file and restore to a previous date. I recently created my first Shareable CD and am very pleased with the CD. My question is, several friends have recently purchased the Roots Magic program and are interested in creating shareable CD's from huge databases with lots of media attachments. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to use a DVD instead of a CD to create the shareable disc? If not, what are your suggestions? Divide the database up by ancestor lines? Make separate DVD's of the media? If it is just the database, can anyone tell me about how many people can be on a Shareable CD (with no media added)? Joanne from MN
