My wife is related to the Friederic Brunk family who arrived on the Hansa 14 Nov 1863 and settled in Kewaunee Co, WI. The family consisted of Fred 44, Anna 38, John 15, August 13, William 8, Julius 7, Christian 5 and Emilie 9 months. Emelia married Charles/Carl Grupp in 1878. They would have 7 dau and 7 sons all living when Amelia died in 1942. Sometime between 1910 and 1920 Amelia decided she was born in WI not Ger. In 1920 the three married dau, Minnie, Emma and Gusta would say their mother was born in Ger. Although Della was at home in 1920 when her mother said they were all born in WI, in 1930 Della would join her three sisters in saying their mother was born in Ger. I wonder what they thought when they red the obit and saw it said their mother was born in Watertown, WI? The other Brunk family arrived on the Magdalene 29 Jan 1868 and settled in Jefferson Co. The family was Fredrick 51, Marie 31, Christian 19, Fredrick 15, Ernst 7, Auguste 6, Emilie 5, Wilhelm 3 and Elise 11 months. In the 1870 census for Jefferson Co, the following changes occurred from the ship listing: Marie is Mary (No big deal), Ernst age 7 becomes Anna age 10, Elise 11 month becomes Eliza age 4 born in WI. A dau Mana was born soon after arrival. In 1880 she is Mary age 11 and Herma age 2. Auguste dies 10 Mar 1877. Ernest dies on the 12th and Fredrick dies on the 30th. How devasting for that family! Finally my question How are the families related if at all? They are not brothers as the Kewaunee Fredrick has a brother John born in 1917. Although he could be a twin of the Jefferson Fredrick but have found no suggestion of that. Stuart Price
