There is a listing for a Frank Bednar (1849-1883) in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. 1885 - Iowa state census, Barbara is a widow living in the home of Frank and Annie Sidu (or Sida), together with her children Zedenka (11), William (9), Frank (7), and Joseph (3). 1900 U.S. federal census, Barbara is with only her son Ladimer (24, born December 1875) and her mother Catherine Hronik. So Ladimer is likely Widemar/William. James and Celia McGuire are also in Cedar Rapids (they have been married for 2 years). 1901 - Cedar Rapids City Directory. Barbara is living at 1007 s 1st w. At the same address is Vladimir C. Bednar. 1910 - U.S. federal census, Barbara is with her daughter Celia (36), son-in-law James McGuire, and their son Glen (6). So Celia is likely Zinka/Zedenka. 1920 - U.S. federal census, Barbara is with her son Frank (41). Frank is divorced. James and Celia McGuire and their son Glen (now 16) are also in Cedar Rapids. 1927 - Victor Bednar (52, single), born 1875 in Cedar Rapids, is on a New York Ship Passenger List. His address is given as 300 1/2 18th Street, Brooklyn. 1929 - Barbara dies. There is a listing for a Barbara Bednar (1852-1929) in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Also in 1929, Vladimer Bednar (53, single), born 27 Dec. 1875 in Cedar Rapids, is on a New York Ship Passenger List. His address is given as 300 1/2 18th Street, Brooklyn. 1930 - U.S. federal census, Frank (52) is with wife May (49). James and Celia McGuire are also in Cedar Rapids. 1961 - Frank dies. Find A Grave has a burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids for Frank Bednar (born 1878, died 1961). In the same cemetery is May E. Bednar (1880-1975). *** Remaining questions: 1. What happened to Glen McGuire, the grandson to Frank and Barbara Bednar? 2. Did Vladimir Bednar have any children, given that he was still single at the age of 53? 3. Was Frank (the son) married prior to his marriage to May? A public member tree on Ancestry has him married in 1901 to a Laura Perrigo, with at least one child. 4. What happened to Joseph Bednar? There is a Joseph Bednar in Cedar Rapids who is close to the right age, but it isn't a perfect match. *** Regards, Drew Smith

City directories give us more information about Glen (or Glenn) L. McGuire in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Ford Paving (where James also worked). 1926 - He first appears with wife Fairy. Later, she appears as Fairy M. McGuire. 1940 - Glenn and Fairy McGuire are living in Cedar Rapids with their 5-year-old daughter Marlynn G. 1958 - Fairy appears alone as Mrs. Fairy McGuire (a teacher), so she is likely a widow at this point. 1983 - Fairy McGuire dies. There is a Social Security Death Index entry for Fairy McGuire, born 9 Feb 1905, died August 1983, with last residence and last benefit in Marion, Linn County. Perhaps you can locate an obituary for Fairy McGuire to see what happened to their daughter, Marlynn. *** Drew Smith
