Nivard, and others... It is definitely a challenge to say what the site does that is different without being overly technical. Of course, I didn't intend to describe it as a search engine per see. First it is a place to share genealogy information. In simple terms the site uses standard vocabularies that relate to genealogy in the same way that GEDCOM was developed as a way to share genealogy information. New features and new application can be developed using these standards - not just standard vocabularies but standardized ways for storing information. It is an "Open" database, as it were. Every statement of knowledge, is communicated in a standard format of subject predicate object, just like one does in English or any language. There is a faq page that I am building and which will contain more information. It is here: http://my-family-lineage.com/wiki/FAQ Perhaps people could suggest other questions? Also, regarding the problems that people had with the site, in the past, I did remove all the suspect advertising and other such code that may have caused problems. Bruce, Let me see if I have it straight: For a fee we will be able to upload our tree in gedcom format and also search other trees. We can do this on Ancestry.com now with permission from the owner of the tree. Gale Gorman Houston On Mar 27, 2012, at 9:00 AM, Bruce Whealton wrote: Nivard, and others... Bruce, I have been following this exchange with some interest. Would it be fair to say you are trying to move computer genealogy to the "cloud"? Dear Bruce If that is your simple explanation I would rather not see your technical version <g> I am not "fick" but your explanation does not help a great deal I have to say As I understand it you have a database to which you hope others will add gedcoms and it searches in some nifty way yet to be explained ? Is that the basic idea ? Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Nivard, and others... > It is definitely a challenge to say what the site does that is different > without being overly technical.
