Don't know if this is a typical instance or not, but in trying to do research on a local Civil War veteran we were told that the entire pension record would cost close to $140. Then one of our group found all 190 pages at www.fold3.com I'm not sure what he paid to subscribe, but it was definitely less than the price that we were quoted and the pages could be printed off immediately rather than waiting for results to arrive by mail.
