African American medical professionals maintained flourishing practices and provided essential services to their community during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The database offers an in-depth survey of where their offices were located, what organizations they joined, newspaper reports about their activities, and the challenges they faced working n segregated Fort Worth. The research for the project was complied by Shirley Apley, Huron Public Library Director, Huron, South Dakota; Jabari Jones, Library Assistant, Fort Worth Library, Fort Worth, Texas; and Tom Kellam, Records Manager/Archivist, Tarrant County College, Fort Worth, Texas. It is the accumulation of two years of research. The research files are housed at the Fort Worth Library's archives. The exhibit will be on display in the West Wing at Central until June 25th. Come check it out the next time you are downtown.
