Seek all data about the death of GEORGE HENRY JONES, born 1837 or 1843 Schuyler, Herkimer Co NY to Freeman and Margaret Jones. He served during Civil War in NY 126th Inf., moved to Broadalbin, Fulton Co NY with parents by 1870. He is in Broadalbin up until 1893, when his property was put up for sale at sheriff's auction. His first wife was Harriet N _________, had a daughter Ida born 1859 Schuyler. He filed for divorce 1874, while married to his second wife Hannah Wetherbee, later divorced, who died ca 1903, buried Broadalbin. George H Jones had a large lumbering business in Broadalbin and it was reported several times that he had disappeared in later years, found with large sums of money, even arrested at Saratoga. He acted strangely. I have found nothing about his death, though I suspect it could have occurred in jail, a poorhouse, or mental institution. And in the 1900 census, his ex-wife Hannah said she was widowed. That would mean he died between 1893 and 1900. No information in his military records. I'd love to learn what became of him, especially that he was a bit of a scoundrel. Any help or suggestions are most welcome, and I thank you very much. Lois
The will of Hannah Jones..She didn't die until 1913. I don't find George in Fulton County, so I will expand to neighboring counties. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-24593-40618-48?cc=1920234&wc=MM5Y-8HD:n678637568 > Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2012 08:04:52 -0700 > From: lois.mymail@yahoo.com > To: roots-l@rootsweb.com > Subject: [ROOTS-L] George Henry Jones > with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
I can only suggest you fight your way thru the hits at Fulton History http://fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html website of old papers, mostly upstate NY titles. There are over 5,000 but they give a tiny snip of what the article is about so you can try his wifes name and hope to limit that way. The site is so useful but with a name like Jones, as I am sure you are only too aware it can be hard Eliz On Wed, Jul 25, 2012 at 11:04 AM, Lois Kogut <lois.mymail@yahoo.com> wrote: > Seek all data about the death of GEORGE HENRY JONES, born 1837 or 1843 Schuyler, Herkimer Co NY to Freeman and Margaret Jones.
