    3. To All Whom It May Concern: The purpose of this message is to inform family genealogists, and researchers of military history, about a very informative web site. It contains a searchable database of 1,650 U.S. Regular Army Soldiers who served at the Buffalo Barracks and/or at Fort Niagara. Many of the officers and soldiers who served there had previously fought in the Florida Indian Wars and later also in the War with Mexican and then the Civil War. Perhaps you are a descendant of one of these men? IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT: The 1840 Census of Buffalo, NY lists Colonel James M. Bankhead, of Virginia, and a total 'quantity' of 671 individuals, ranging in age from 1 to 60, as being under his command and/or responsibility. Unfortunately, the census does not list each of the barracks residents by name.... but rather only by quantity. (426 males 20-30 years, and 34 females 20-30 years) HOWEVER, through extensive research, I have turned most of those nameless 'quantities' into actual names. The lists of these officers and soldiers can be searched, free of any charge, on the web site I have published, and maintain, entitled: “The Buffalo Barracks Historic Web Site” at [ [1]http://www.buffalonet.org/army ]. There, you will discover the "Descriptive & Historical Register Data of Enlisted Soldiers in the U.S. Army," for all soldiers who were “At Buffalo,” between 1835 and 1846. Also available on the web site is a wealth of rare and interesting information of great historic value. I encourage everyone to take the time to visit this site, and to contact me if you discover, and can confirm, that your ancestor once served on the Niagara Frontier during the Patriots’ War. Enjoy your visit!
