Hi David If its not discussed on the lists, how are people supposed to know about it at all? It is definitely a fitting subject for discussion on list IMHO You are assuming that everyone reads blogs, I for one don't as its simply to time consuming, thats why email lists are so much better as the information comes to you rather than you having to go and hunt it out Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 14/07/2012 17:36, W David Samuelsen wrote: > Too few know the answer outside FamilySearch blog which has all the answers! > > What you are saying, is like asking the Devil about a good product it > know nothing about! Nivard: Amen! The FamilySearch blogs and forums leave much to be desired. With Roots-L I have responses within hours while questions posted at LDS forums sit for days or weeks without response. Hopefully someone who is knowledgeable about Family Tree will respond so we can all learn more of what it's about and how to get to it. I read through the Family Search site's Helps, Forums, and Blogs for hours and could only find brief hints about this new animal. The blogs are separate from the forums. The managers will NOT tell you on this list. You have to go to the blogs for details. They are not going to repeat au nauseum on this list. David S. I beg to differ. Your comments are most negative to newcomers here as well as those of us who are longtime subscribers. Being a volunteer list and board administrator on Rootsweb for the past 15 years, I have seen all kinds of help on THIS list more than others. You seem to be a bit too rigid in your response to Kirsten As to the "managers" on this list: the only one is our List Admin Karen and she and her husband were part of the ORIGINAL Rootsweb [before Ancestry] and Karen is the one who decides when a topic is NOT on topic for THIS list. This list is for ALL Genealogy topics including questions about other genealogy web sites. Hi, David, ROOTS -is not a surname /area /or subject mailing list. It is open to all discussions about "Genealogy" from the Familysearch website to DNA testing... from Genealogy software to Copyrights.... It is for "ALL" genealogical subjects... In the beginning....the creators of rootsweb.com created only one mailing list... this one; it soon became so busy that the individual different types of mailing lists were developed. I guess its description should read General Genealogical subjects... When a person wants a particular subject mailing list we go to that list and if there isn't one we ask to have it created.. and become the volunteer administrators of that mailing list... One other thing is the subject lines - decide what you want to read by the subject line (thats why good descriptive subject lines are so IMPORTANT) then use your delete button... Hope that helps you know what this mailing list is about. Nelda Percival volunteer admin since 1998 4 mailing lists/18 message boards But, today well lived - makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Questions are asked and answered promptly at the BLOG. Discussions, discussions, discussions and nothing happens here. Go there and learn how to get in. What you are saying, is like asking Rootsmagic how to use Ancestral Quest or FamilyTreeMaker! Hi David As I said previously, you assume everyone wants to go to a blog, I and dare say many others do not I would rather hear about it and discuss it here on the list, an altogether better medium of communication in my opinion Your analogy, rather like Liza's bucket does not hold water This is a list for the discussion of matters relating to genealogy From the list home page Topic: Genealogy (all topics) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 14/07/2012 18:24, W David Samuelsen wrote: > Questions are asked and answered promptly at the BLOG. > > Discussions, discussions, discussions and nothing happens here. > > Go there and learn how to get in. > > What you are saying, is like asking Rootsmagic how to use Ancestral > Quest or FamilyTreeMaker! > > David
I agree. Email lists bring the topic to me and I can easily delete if not interested. With blogs and forums I must go to them, log on, and then search for something meaningful and I don't care to spend my time like that.
