    3. There was never a Grand Duchy of Hessen Nassau at any time. It was a province within Kingdom of Prussia, 1866 to 1918 The province was created from then independent Hesse-Kassel (or Hesse-Cassel), the Duchy of Nassau, the Free City of Frankfurt, areas gained from Kingdom of Bavaria and areas gained from Grand Duchy of Hesse, and former Landgraviate of Hesse-Homburg BTW, the flag of Hesse-Nassau is identical to that of the Netherlands. The Dutch royal house originates from the Duchy of Nassau.
