I see no reason to panic. You will still be able to use XP, but there will no longer be updates, pateches. I still have a computer with Windows 98 2nd ed. I have some genealogy software that won't run on later versions. So I use it occasionally, but I don't use if for the internet. If you want to buy a Windows 7 machine, many models are likely on sale now since Windows 8 will be coming up in the near future. But if XP works for you, stick with up and buy a Windows 8 machine when XP is no longer supported.
