We have to ask ourselves WHY we do the research...some day we will be gone and our research with us if we don't share and get the information we've learned "out there." To me, the importance is in citing sources (if it's my tree or any other source) so that those who find the information know where it came from to follow up on it to verify/accept/or refute.
