    3. I don't know what their mode of transportation was but it continues to amaze me how my ancestors moved around. The grandfather I knew as a child and than as a young man came over from England in 1895. He landed in Galveston and brought a bicycle which he promptly traded for a horse. He met my grandmother in Alameda, California and then my mother was born in Portland.
