Hey Linda, I gotta ask, even tho your surname is like Smith and Johnson, what misspellings or phonetic spellings have you seen for the name? My wife's gr-grandmother was Manuela Gorteres, which I'm taking as a very terrible misspelling of Gutierrez. And another researcher who knows what I've been working on lately thought it would be a hoot if you and my wife were related... Thanks! jan
My first exposure to genealogy was to look up my grandfather. I found the family with my father along with an aunt and uncles that I knew but the surname was GERMAN when I was of course looking for GORMAN. When I looked at the original on film it was easy to see the mistake reading cursive handwriting.
