    1. Re: [ROOTS-L] Newspaper access/Washington twps, various PA counties
    2. Just an additional note.  Many of my PA ancestors of the counties of Bedford, Huntingdon, Jefferson, Indiana and Armstrong. lived in Washington twps. whichkept pointing me to Washington county records. Finally, I began locating them inWashington townships of these various counties. I think the enumerators didn't realize what confusion it would lead to if they just put 'Washington' as the location. Also, Indiana county and Armstrong county had several newspapers being publishedduring the 1800s, and since much of these counties is either rural or farming areas; they are typical 'small town' format with the comings and goings of  whoever lived there or nearby. My 2nd great grandfather's obituary was found in one of the Pittsburgh newspapers, even though he lived about 80 miles east of Pittsburgh. This happened as he had done quite well financially and was known over much of western and central Pennsylvania. Hope this opens up some info for researches.  If you search by location, you oftenfind tidbits that don't turn up otherwise. I don't remember how I started it, exactly.  I think I had a separate subscription in the beginning and then when I renewed to Ancestry it was offered.  I have Fold3 as well but I don't get much use out of that.  Yes, it costs extra, but it comes in a bundle.  Three, ancestry, newspapers and Fold3.  It's expensive.  But I check into it every evening (when I should be doing other things LOL) and per hour it's not so much. I'll look at Wash co., PA and see what's there.
