    3. Christine, Thank you! That’s a lot to digest. I totally agree about FB being a time-suck and maybe that’s the draw. I’m in Garden Oaks, an old area just north of the Heights. Hi Gale, To answer your question: ~Open your 'edit person' box ~'add a fact' ~once that populates, you will see three icons next to the 'age' column. They represent, in order, notes, citation, and media. ~click on the media icon and the media album will pop up. ~click 'add new media'; 'add media item' box will pop up. ~choose the media type: image, file, sound, or video. If you choose image, you will only see your JPGs; if you choose file, you should see both JPGs and PDFs. ~click 'disk' and choose your file's location. ~once you have chosen the file, it will populate into a 'media properties' box. Here you can annotate caption, description, date, and tag. The caption is what will label your icon. ~click 'OK' Before you start uploading media, make sure the origin location for your files are how you want them to be permanently. If you start to move folders and files around, the pathways will be broken and RM won't know where to look for them. To answer your earlier question about file organization, I use a modification of what was recommended in beginner genealogy class from SLCC. In my 'C' drive, I have a folder 'GENEALOGY'. Sub-folders are labeled: Charts; Databases; Forms; History; Photos; Records; Research Trips; Templates; Timelines. I also have an Alternate_Extra Files folder for duplicates and far-fetched things I need to revisit one day. Records is where I mostly work from; inside I have a folder for each surname and each surname has all of the templates. When a record affects two people (marriage cert), I drop a copy into both the man's surname folder and the woman's surname folder. Templates include sub-folders: Births; Census; Death; Immigration; Land; Marriages; Military; Newspaper; Occupations; Wills_Estates; and Misc_Other. (Having this makes it easy to copy/paste all into a new surname folder later.) Databases would be a good location for your local backup of RM. Of course, both my files and my RM database are also saved on an external hard drive and the cloud. LOCKSS RootsMagic has tons of free tools and help. From inside RM, go to Help>>Learning Center. There are PDF handouts, short videos, and longer webinar instruction. I am by no means an expert; in fact I am a beginner, but this is where I learned the basics. I don't do facebook; it is a huge timesuck and there is too much drama. I hope you are staying dry and safe. Luckily, I am in the band on the west side that did not get much rain, thus far. Good luck! Christine D. Also in H-town
