Does anyone know if these (i.e. New York State death index) are complete? I was able to find some of my ancestors in them, but a couple of them are nowhere to be found. I checked alternate spellings, and checked the years before/after, but no luck. In one case it happens to be a husband and wife who died in 1885 and 1888, respectively, both in Athens, Greene, NY. I don't know the parents of either one, and neither appears in the death records index on Archive.org.... Same holds true for another ancestor, who died in Rensselaer County, NY in 1883. I have her death info from cemetery records, but can't find her in the death index.... I have not tried ordering the certificates yet, but if they don't exist in the index, should I even bother trying to order them from the state? I know the years/dates of death based on their gravestones, and in the case of the husband, I know when his will was probated. Any suggestions on where these missing records might be? I had already checked with the town clerk, and she has nothing for either of them in her records.... Is it possible death certificates could never have been filled out? Thanks,Jerem
