I've "rescued" an old photograph of Bertha CARNIHAN which was taken at the Wendt Studio in Boonton, NJ. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's and indicates that Bertha is 27 years old at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Bertha and her family: Bertha Jean CARNIHAN was b. 14 Feb 1872 to parents Alexander Johnson CARNIHAN (b. 12 Apr 1832 in Canada-d. 1920 in Los Angeles, CA) and Wilhelmina "Wilma" KEPNER (b. 26 Feb 1852 in Marion, OH- d. 23 Jan 1900). Bertha had at least 4 other siblings including, Eva Rose CARNIHAN PHIPPS (1873-1974); Minnie Gillis CARNIHAN (b. 1875); Mertie CARNIHAN ALEXANDER (1878-1956); Dollie CARNIHAN who was born and died in 1885; and Baby Girl CARNIHAN who was born and died in 1876. Bertha married Charles Francis RYAN (1857-1923 or 1930) and she died 3 Nov 1949 and is buried in the Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, CA. Bertha worked for the circus as an entertainer for many years as she was a tiny person, billed as one of the smallest ladies on earth. She was with Ringling Brothers for many years traveling throughout the country. I am hoping to locate someone from Bertha's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of her family.
