Hello Listers I am trying to find/research the parents of the following John HICKS and am not having much success. Can anyone please help or advise me of my next step. Among others you need to check GENUKI http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng It is a lot of work but has a lot of links. I haven't checked findmypast http://www.findmypast.com/ but you need to search it. You can buy small amounts short terms if you find some likely hits. There is also Online Parish Clerks http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/online_parish_clerk some sites are full of BMD from Bishops Transcripts etc others not so much. This is the link to Yorkshire you need to search it thoroughly as there are many links. If you are using ancestry you can get more from the hints if you go to a record and keep working it. The census doesn't go so far back but you might find a baptism, the more you play with the person the more your chances of finding a useful hint.
