Did you offer to pay for the look-up of any information? Churches do not always have enough paid staff to perform lookups without cost. I was talking with a Catholic sister a couple weeks back, and she told me the Catholic churches (and I would assume their cemeteries too) charge a standard fee for any record searches. Also did you contact the local county or city clerk for a death certificate?
