    3. You can get the Swedish translated by contacting a Swedish embassy. My grandmother was born Sweden and we had items in Swedish which I took to the Swedish Embassy in Houston, TX. It might shed light on where in Sweden they were born or married. Because of the naming pattern in Sweden, it takes a lot to figure that all out. I have recently, through Family Finder DNA testing, found my grandmother’s lineage back to early 1700’s in Sweden. Lena Bridgman Truster 19753 FM 1119 Midway, TX 75852 936-348-0731

    3. Hi List I’m dong research on the GAEMLICH/K {Gumlich} family who arrived in the USA in 1833 from the port of Bremen Germany on board the “Lucilla”. They lived in Allegheny Co PA at some stage. I have Rosina aged 46 with Johann G 48 with their children. One of the childrens names appears as JOHANN C. aged 17 Female. I’m trying to find any evidence that this is indeed Christina GAEMLICK who I have been researching as being married to William FULLUM PA. When I can get familysearch to work for me today I will look for the births of the children in Germany. I’m sure that Christina Gaemlick-FULLER was Lutheran. On the 1840 Census there is one John G. GAEMLICK living in Findley, Allegheny co. PA. The family sometimes listed (at least once as GUNLICK). One of the children of John moved to Missouri! I was hoping to find information from “Date of Intention to acquire citizenship” which may give more details on sponsors, children’s names etc. Are any of these records available online. Any help in discovering more on CHRISTINA GAEMLICH-FULLER who died in Indiana County PA in 1900 very much appreciated. Kindest regards Dianna

    1. [ROOTS-L] CARNIHAN - KEPNER - RYAN Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel via
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Bertha CARNIHAN which was taken at the Wendt Studio in Boonton, NJ. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's and indicates that Bertha is 27 years old at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Bertha and her family: Bertha Jean CARNIHAN was b. 14 Feb 1872 to parents Alexander Johnson CARNIHAN (b. 12 Apr 1832 in Canada-d. 1920 in Los Angeles, CA) and Wilhelmina "Wilma" KEPNER (b. 26 Feb 1852 in Marion, OH- d. 23 Jan 1900). Bertha had at least 4 other siblings including, Eva Rose CARNIHAN PHIPPS (1873-1974); Minnie Gillis CARNIHAN (b. 1875); Mertie CARNIHAN ALEXANDER (1878-1956); Dollie CARNIHAN who was born and died in 1885; and Baby Girl CARNIHAN who was born and died in 1876. Bertha married Charles Francis RYAN (1857-1923 or 1930) and she died 3 Nov 1949 and is buried in the Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, CA. Bertha worked for the circus as an entertainer for many years as she was a tiny person, billed as one of the smallest ladies on earth. She was with Ringling Brothers for many years traveling throughout the country. I am hoping to locate someone from Bertha's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of her family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [ROOTS-L] OLSON - NILSON or NELSON - GARDNER - LINDH or LIND Family Photograph and documents
    2. Shelley Cardiel via
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of George OLSON and his bride Emma NILSON or NELSON (written both ways on the various documents) which was taken at the Brandt Studio in Seattle sometime in the early 1900's. In addition to George and Emma, the photograph includes Emma's brother Gustaf Adolph NILSON or NELSON and a woman I believe to be Jenny LINDH. All four appear to be in their 20's or 30's at the time the photograph was taken. I suspect that this photograph was taken on the occasion of George and Emma's wedding in July 1912 with the other two pictured their witnesses at the wedding. Someone has also written the name Edith J. GARDNER NILSON on the back of the photograph along with the word "Father" so I'm not sure what that reference is intended to mean - maybe that is the Mother to Emma and Gustaf? In addition to this photograph I've also recovered the marriage certificate belonging to George OLSON and his bride Emma Charlotta NELSON, both of Seattle, WA who were married in Seattle in July 1912. The certificate is written all in Swedish so I'm not able to translate it all. A third item is the decorative baptism certificate for Elna Frida Charlotta OLSON who was born 5 Feb 1913 in Seattle, WA and baptized on 10 Jan 1914 in Seattle as well. The Godparents are listed as Fredrick H. LIND and Ellen Augusta LIND and the ceremony was performed by Pastor C. E. FRISK. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following additional information regarding the family: George T. OLSON was b. 21 Jun 1884 and died 30 Jun 1949 and is buried in the Lake View Cemetery in Seattle, WA. Census records provide the following details: 1920 census of Seattle, WA: George OLSON, age 35, to USA 1906, born Sweden, parents born Sweden, a Ship Builder Emma OLSON, wife, age 28, to USA 1911, born Sweden, parents born Sweden Elinor OLSON, dau, age 6, born WA Harry OLSON, son, age 5, born WA Esther OLSON, dau, age 3 years + 6 months, born WA 1930 census of Seattle, WA: George T. They keep the samples so, if for some reason you want a 67 marker test or possibly other tests which the site offers, your brother won't have to send in another sample. John aged 37, wife Sarah aged 22 and John’s mother Magdalena aged 72. Magdalena was in Indiana County PA in 1853 when she died but I do not know which of her sons she was living with (perhaps Henry?). I cannot find any records of John and Sarah FULLER after 1850. I don’t know if they have gone back to the original spelling of their surname as FULLUM/EM/OM or not? The family are sometimes listed as Mulatto! As there is nothing listed for Race/Colour on the actual 1850 Census I’m not sure!! John and two of his brothers William b c 1804 and Henry b 1823 are listed as White on the census’s. I would like to find perhaps a probate record for John, intestate record or something (Deeds perhaps?) that may lead to discovering what happened to this couple. I don’t know if he would have been too old for the civil war. He was born about 1813 in Washington County PA, near or around Robinson Twp I would guess. One of 7 brothers. 1. Re: [ROOTS-L] Software for Non-Genealogists?
    2. MScheffler via
    3. I mentioned previously that one can go to www.rootsmagic.com and download RootsMagic 7 which will allow one to install the full RM7 program on either a Windows computer or a Mac. Both programs come on the same CD version and the download version. One could then create a sharable cd which is read only and would allow one to look at everything in your database. You would likely need to purchase the program to get the sharable CD option rather than getting just the free version which does not have all the features. I have the paid version so I cannot check out the features for the free one. I do not know what the Wintel platform is. A free way to share your database with everyone that I did not think of earlier is to upload your gedcom to WorldConnect at www.rootsweb.com and then send your relatives the proper url link to the website in the place you want them to look. This should be for dead people however, and not living relatives. But if you want to send the living people this will not work unless you indicate "dead" in the proper place for the living people you wish to include in the gedcom you submit. I want myself to show up in my WorldConnect database, so I just give my birth year and check the nonliving box and I show up when WorldConnect searches and tries to eliminate living people. 3. You are quite right, Jan. It’s very easy to overload even relatives you might think would want to know. But the two or three genealogy shows on TV have figured out it must come across like a story to hold the interest of the masses. There’s an Ancestry TV ad with a lady who “couldn’t wait to see her pie chart.” I’m another non-Windoze old fart but I did switch to Mac when my SCO Xenix no longer worked. No one seems to want to know all you can do with just the OS on a *nix system. We don’t need no stinking apps. 3. Hi Carol I did notice you didn't actually get a reply to your original question or at least haven't seen one, I was expecting there to be many As you will no doubt be aware all software has a learning curve, so IMHO I doubt any software would be useful to simply display without learning how to use it, so the already suggested pdf output might be the option Most of the major suppliers have a free to use version, some limited by time, others by number, yet more by facility but all would do what you want, ie produce a chart or charts to enable a non genealogist to understand them to a point (but would depend upon their competence in producing a report of course) I still use PAF which I am more than satisfied with, but as its no longer supplied by the LDS, perhaps an alternative might be Ancestral Quest who supplied PAF in the first place, very easy to use and they do a free version AQ also runs on both Mac and Windows machines but I presume they are different downloads? http://www.ancquest.com/index.htm By coincidence a reply to a similar request for information on software had a reply regarding Gramps, which is entirely free and has a Windows and Mac version https://gramps-project.org/ Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 15/07/2016 12:43, Carol Botteron via wrote: > Thank you all for the suggestions.
